Thanks for that Charles......strange that Ryanair are still taking bookings for the 17th......I have my sister coming out then , so fingers crossed it will get called off.........

Ryanair are probably okay, because it doesn't look as if the air traffic controllers are promsing to strike ....yet. (Sorry!!)

Great news! A friend who I haven't seen in ten years finally has the possibility to come a visit me for the weekend and BANG, a general strike on that very day! How's that for coincidence!!!!

If it's any comfort Tinacara during the 6 year period I commuted from UK to Italy there were many transport strikes but with patience, I always got to my destination because it seemed that not absolutely every rail or bus company strikes all on the same day.

"General strike" does sound rather scary, but it is basically Italian airlines, possibly other stuff flying into the Milan airports, and trains and buses which will be affected (if it goes ahead). So UK to Calabria should be fine - just so long as you can pick up your friend at the airport.

I think the math behind sod's law is suspect!!
