10689 WARNING - Postal scam...

I know this isn't about Italy, but I thugh it was important and didn't know which other forum to put it on... This forum is, I believe, one of the most popular as far as views go - so here it is!

Picked this up on my small 'home town' UK site this morning. Worth knowing about. Beware! :eeeek:
- it has been confirmed by Royal Mail. The Trading Standards Office are making people aware of the following scam:

A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service)suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (a premium rate number). DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize.

If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £15 for the phone call.
If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 02072396655 or ICSTIS (the premium rate service regulator) at PhonePayPlus - ICSTIS is re-branding

while this was a real scam (and worth people being aware of in case of copy cats) , it was shut down in 2005. See http://www.phonepayplus.org.uk/pdfs_news/PostalScam2007.pdf for confirmation.

As these type of scare mails are common, I usually check with Sophos first as they are on top of these things -> Sophos describes hoaxes

Specificially -> Sophos hoax description: Parcel Delivery Service scam

Yes, I think you are right pigro....
I cut and pasted the warning, but failed to copy the message that was attached to it - it said:
"I seem to remember something like this doing the rounds a while back, looks like they're at it again."

Sorry!
