That's terrible Sally - I would never ring anyone after 10pm unless prearranged. How on Earth did they get your phone number?

I know that a Google search was made for my name and location, fortunately it would not actually have revealed were I live but nevertheless someone - a member here- found out my unpublished email address and emailed me making all sorts of false accusations.
As I think I have said before there are some strange people who use the internet - so not every detail I give about myself is 100% accurate - just doe safety’s sake.
Of course if people freely publish details about themselves on the internet, they can then not complain about an invasion of privacy.

Not at 3 am Nielo.

I am not so sure there is such a thing as privacy within the context one is trying to apply here, and as an extension of that, an invasion of privacy.
Whilst i am in agreement that one should be careful,as to what one says about themselves,as far too often people say too much in the first place.
By even signing up to a forum, one gives away details to a third party source, in pure faith!
Privacy its a myth, pull the curtains shut, and keep your voices down.....

With an email the time is controlled by the person who opens it so it doesn't really matter does it?

Nielo, your comment is not relevant. It was not an e-mail but a phone call at 3 am that I'm referring to. Oh actually there were three. Whereas there were no threats it certainly was a very weird person instigating these calls as I'm sure you like J+C will agree.

I’m sorry, I misunderstood what you meant, I thought you were referring to the email I received and what time it was sent.
What was not at 3am?
As has been discussed on a previous thread would members care to discuss what might be for them an invasion of privacy? perhaps with especial reference to this forum ?.
I understood from Nardini that he asked someone who worked in an office which – it had been alleged – had given a member of this forum bad advice and a run-around if someone in the circumstances outlined by the member would have been treated as the member claimed he had been.
Since we don't know the member's real name, I find it difficult to accept that this is an invasion of privacy. It would, I think, have overstepped the line if Nardini had been told by the comune official that the reason the member had been unsuccessful in his Italian adventure was due to some specific problem to do with his living arrangements here, with his claimed professional qualifications, his finances, a criminal record or some other information which Nardini had no good reason to know. It would have obviously been much worse had Nardini returned here and posted that information.
I'm well aware of the fact that there are lots of nuts in the world. I was married to a British Member of Parliament for a decade and that made me perhaps more conscious than most of the potential hazards of being too open with details of personal living arrangements.
Yet my user name here is my real name (and, yeah, anyone who's sufficiently bored can now go off and confirm what I said above) and my entry on the Member Map is accurate enough to bring you to our front door.
Cynical about human nature though I am, I'm really not too worried about people knowing who I am, where I am now and where I come from. The sort of personal details that I would not be happy about just anyone knowing I keep to myself and share only with those I trust totally. So the answer to the question of what I'd consider an invasion of privacy is, I suppose, nothing less than being subjected to some sort of interrogation that resulted in me telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth to an inquisitor and that then being published.
But I'm not so egotistical as to believe that anybody else cares in the slightest about the stuff that matters most to me, so I'm really quite blasé about the whole issue.

This of course stems from the thread "Working In Italy" wherein it was revealed that Nardini, a member based in Italy had possibly been discussing the thread's originator with his (Nardini's) extended Italian family and connections.
It seems to me normal. However had Nardini actually set out deliberately to track down someone here, well that's another matter entirely.
Privacy??? Well a couple of years ago I was tracked down by a member here who had the audacity to ring me here at 3 am which not only woke me up but the entire household. That was totally totally out of order.
