Depending upon where you are starting from in the UK there is also Birmingham to Forli (south of Bologna) but at some point I think it is changing to Birmingham to Bologna. Slightly less convenient for Le Marche but still a straightforward drive down the motorway.

Thanks to both A&R & Anne2, but i still think that Stansted - Ancona is still easier. Living in West Yorkshire isnt ideal at the moment for travel to this area.
How long would you estimated it would take drive from Rimini to the Fermo area?
Cheers
Nige

Interesting! Just run a little experiment on the amazing invention "Google Earth" Call me sad if you like, butusing the ruler tool. ive just worked out that if i drive to East Midland A.P. and then Rimini to Fermo i'l do around 185 miles. If i drive to Stansted and to Fermo from Ancona, i'll have covered around 230 miles.
The Birmingham - Forli route would see us driving around 245 miles.
Wish i'd have tried that before i booked Stansted - Ancona.
It seems that you were corrent A&R. Thanks, i'll try this route next time.

Rimini to Pedaso is about 1.5 hours so would probably be slightly quicker to Fermo. With regards to whether to drive to Stansted or Brum I would always choose Brum (my family is in Barnsley) as the A1 is such a God forsaken road- I hate it (though whether that is from many years of using it to drive from London to Barnsley or not is another question). the only problem is that the flight being moved from Forli to Bologna has meant that we will now need to stay in a hotel the night before as the possibilty of snow near Christmas is quite high

Sadly the E mids- Rimini route does not run through winter and is not daily in the summer - I dont think they ran on Sats last year. The last flight out on this route is this Friday. I hope it'll be back next summer. The A1 is much better than it used to be - we did Stansted to N Derbyshire in 3 hrs last Tue afternoon. The M6 is my bete noire, esp after that ghastly acident this week..

Thanks to all,
The A1 is much better these days, as they have taken away many of the old roundabouts.
I noticed that East Mids to Rimini flights are not available at present. If mileage is anything to go by then i think Stansted - Ancona is still the better option for me.
So, do i take it ......still no Liverpool to Ancona for the foreseable future?
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Sadly I very much doubt it Angel. I have emailed and written to them but never receive any reply. They are now flying from Manchester to a few places - a direct route from there to Ancona would make me jump for joy...
Can't see it happening.

Very strange. I cannot find Liverpool on the Ryanair destination map!!! Still Dusseldorf is perhaps a useful connection from Manchester and onwards to Ancona.

Thanks Sally,
Ive already had a brief look at Manchester - Dussledorf - Ancona, but the times of the flights mean you would have to arrange an overnight stay in Dussledorf, so would be a tad inconvienient.
Ive had a look at Alitalia in the past from Manchester but the prices were very expensive in comparison to Ryanair.
I guess we'll have to continue with the drive to Stansted for the time being.

AngelDiMana
we live in West Yorks with a house near San Ginesio, Marche.
We choose to fly Liverpool to Rome Ciampino.
This takes less than 1 hour to Liverpool and 3.5 hours from Rome to Marche.
Stansted to Ancona is 3 hours drive in UK and 1 hour Italy.
We prefer to drive in Italy.
Ciampino airport is minutes from the GRA.
Exit onto the A24 signposted to L'Aquila.
10km tunnel through mountains.
Head north when you reach the coast road near Teramo.
Lovely scenery.
Flights from Liverpool depart approx 06:30, return flights leave approx 10:30 - manageable.
Regards

A bit too far north.
I may consider the other options next time. For this time though (in a fortnight) ive already booked Stansted - Ancona.
I did check East Mids - Rimini but not scheduled or unavailable at the moment.
Flights from Liverpool

Hi,
I've been wondering the same thing about the Liverpool to Ancona flight. I also emailed Ryanair and (surprise, surprise) never received a response.
I travel several times a year to Molise and it's a pain for me getting there. If I fly Liverpool to Rome it's a 4 hours drive once I arrive in Italy. The train times are even worse, taking anything from 7 to 9 hours from Rome to Termoli. Then returning, the flight leaves around 10.30am, there's no bus or train at that time so there's no choice but to drive, which means leaving at 5am.
Liverpool to Ancona was slightly better because the trains are more frequent, but I'd only tried that route once and they stopped doing it :madd:
Now I have to drive to Stansted and fly to Pescara. That's great when I arrive in Italy because my destination is only an hours drive away, but driving to Stansted is a bit of a pain (not to mention the cost of parking).
It's such a shame that there aren't more options for people in the North of England who want to travel to mid/Southern Italy, although the demand certainly seems to be there!

Try faxing. I have know them to respond to a complaint.

If you've read the biography of Micheal O'Leary you'll know that the basic facts are that every Ryanair flight has to at least break even - Liverpool Ancona just wasn't getting enough revenue for the volume and so the route was pulled (we paid £70 for 4 of us at Easter which is just not economically viable long term) - perhaps if the tourist boards in the Marche had put more money into the route to promote it, it might have had more chance. They seem to be focusing much more on flights between the UK and Poland to bring visitors and migrant workers to the UK. I can't see it being reinstated.
Also Jet 2 have pulled Manchester Rome for winter (end Nov - Feb)

Thanks, I'll definitely give that a go................................
I've just checked on their website for the fax number and it states that you have to provide your flight confirmation number, flight number, passenger names, dates and routes - even if you're complimenting them or offering suggestions for improvement. A response is then sent to the email address given at the time of booking your flight, apparently within 7 working days!
I'll do that tomorrow and await my response with interest

That's true. The last time I flew from Liverpool the airport was full of Polish people. My dream would be a Liverpool - Pescara flight but somehow I can't see that happening!

yes my dream also would be Liverpool or Leeds or Manchester Pescara - ma its not going to happen - bought my house nearly 5 years ago when we could only go stansted to Pescara or an expensive flight from Manchester to Rome(friends thought we were mad ) - the past 4 years have been good -1st Tee Side remember the cheap flights and then Leedsjet 2 but only the summer (hope they run it next year) and then Liverpool to Rome. So I remember the days when it was hard - but then the house prices reflected the poor comunications.I noticed that jet2 was not going to Rome over the winter from Manchester.

We flew Liverpool to Ancona several times befroe they pulled it. Everytime we flew the flight was always full or at least near full. So why they couldnt make it more profitable is a bit strange.
Weve just paid £40 return to fly Stansted - Ancona.
Now, i dont claim to know how much it costs to run a profitable route, but surely they could get more money per person for this route when the only other viable option for us was Manchester to Ancona with Alitalia and this was around £400 the last time we checked.

I remember this thread from ages ago.. it does look as if that route really has gone which is very sad (though hubby has said he will never fly with Ryanair again - I say never say never!) Next May we are heading further south to Campania, thought we would fly to Naples but found it a bit complicated, so flying Manchester to Rome with Jet2.com (what are they like?!) and have a few days in Rome first. Can't wait! But if there were still cheap flights NW to Ancona I feel sure we would back to the Fortino Napoleon, we had such a wonderful few days there.

For those saddos amongst us who are forever trawlimg the net for details and info about travelling to and in Italy, a really useful website is via michelin. It has so much info on routes, tolls. hotels etc. One of my favourites.

Jet2 - not as sparkling as they used to be! Often long queues to check-in ... On price beware of all the additional charges that only appear late in the booking process - usually make it quite expensive.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
For people in the north who don't like Ryanair and don't like Stansted or Liverpool there is also easyJet's Newcastle to Rome Ciampino flight. This runs all year, unlike Jet2 flights to Italy. Newcastle is not convenient for most people in the northwest, but for Yorkshire it could be a viable option.

I'm sure I heard yesterday that Ryanair are going to pull out of their operations in Valencia. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it will free up some planes and allow Liverpool Ancona to return. I wont hold my breath though.

It was in the Telegraph today...apparently the local authority aren't promoting the airport enoguh. Would that be the case with Ancona? It was a bit mysterious why that was pulled...
I know this is not what you asked, but would East Midlands to Rimini be of any help, on the motorway Rimini is not that much more distance than Ancona (about 45mins?) and then an easy drive down to your destination, just a thought, although I havent checked their winter time table.
