10828 Kennels - Catteries - Pensione per i cani/gatti

There seem to be very few kennels/catteries in Italy. We live in southern Tuscany and need somewhere to billet a cat for Christmas/New Year, and the nearest cattery we can find is two hours drive away.

Are they really so few and far between, or am I not looking in the right way?

Try asking a local Vet, sure that they will possibly know someone maybe more local to you.

Hi, I have a cattery- only over the hill (well mountain) from Tuscany,
have a look at the website. Home

Good advice and links - thanks all. Herealready - your cattery would be ideal, except that unfortunately it's too far from us. Shame.

Our vet couldn't or wouldn't suggest anything. We considered asking somebody in to come in to check up regulary, but there's the risk of it not getting done or the cat getting out and going looking for us.

There's a place an hour-and-a-half away which looks OK. It's just amazing that that seems to be the nearest.

business opportunity for some - catteries / kennels in selected areas where there are a large number of English speaking residents. Our local italians here just leave the cats to fend for themselves and abandon the dogs when they go back to their main homes after the summer break. Hence we now have 18 cats and Val and Mino have 20+ dogs.

geotherm is right that is your best option as at least the vet may be able to help or indicate somewhere.
we have had the same problem, you see in urban areas it's not an issue they're all over the place in the country people don't go away so they don't need/have catteries kennels and at worst relatives /neighbours/other family members remain.
we went to our vet who knows our cats she took them to her house with her other 12 cats although our black cat who hates other cats preferred to live in her bedroom wardrobe during his stay with her she only wanted a little money to pay for their food -very kind vet.....

Hi probably a little too far for you but I use an absolutely brilliant Cattery near Perugia in Umbria. It is ONLY for cats which is good! The girl that runs it is vet and very much simpatico with the 'english way' of looking after and treating animals. The facilities are really clean and warm and each cat has a huge glass fronted area on 2 levels - easily possible for 2 or 3 cats from the same home. Anyway her details are: G A T T H O T E L & S P A Her name is Roberta and telephone: 340 8140062.
