Hi Carol B
I think they might mean house gas ?..........could be wrong, unless there putting a car supply into there house :nah:
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Sure do mean house gas, but that site is actually very useful as quite a few supply house gas as well, like the cheapest there Beyfin la tua convenienza - stazioni di servizio gpl benzina gasolio

For what it's worth, we've topped up our bombola twice this year with propano.
On 10 April, the price was €0.847 per litre (for 600 litres).
On 14 October, the price was €0.800 per litre (for 450 litres).
Our supplier is Totalgaz.

Just trying to work out some comparisons Allan, as is my norm. When did you fill the tank before the April top-up, and is GPL your primary heat source for DHW and heating?

Other than the obvious – that probably the only thing more expensive than heating by GPL would be burning €5 notes in an open fireplace – I doubt if any figures you might come up with would be indicative of anything significant since we had an untypical start to 2008.
Nevertheless: We got the tank filled in mid-December, but we mainly used our wood-fire for heating last winter. GPL is the only means we have of heating DHW. We were away from home for two months from the middle of February, but foolishly left the thermostat set at around 10° during a couple of months which were much chillier than we had expected. So that means we spent more than €175 a month keeping an empty (apart from one cat) house heated to a temperature far below one that we'd find comfortable.
I have no doubts whatsoever that running your heating system cost you a fraction of what we spent on gas.
We've now started burning wood again, but we find there are always awkward periods in Autumn and Spring when the nights are cool enough to need a bit of warmth in the house, but not so cold that they really justify the hassle of building a wood-fire that's really not all that controllable and so can end up making the house too warm. That's the time of year when we turn on the central heating for an hour or two in the evenings.

Many thanks Allan, for that info. I know it was off the original thread topic, but it is interesting to get some comparisons of heating/dhw costs. Perhaps there should be a thread on costs related to house size, heating type and hours used, lived in area, etc.

Thanks Allan, very interesting - the price would appear to be following the market. Do you have a contract with Totalgaz, if so can I ask what are the basic terms?

Can You??? More details please.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
All we did was get a form from the commune, gave it to the supplier and they started sending us credit notes, so you pay the full amount and then get the credit, it may vary between supplier, but thats how it works for us.

And if you dont already have a tank, you can normally do a deal on the first delivey of gas, it depends, if you want it buried, how big it is etc etc ...........good luck

Have you had a delivery recently, Ricky, and did you still get the credit note ? I ask because a while ago I asked our commune about this ( which as you know is only a hop, skip and a jump from yours) and they said this discount had been discontinued by the new government, but that 'things may change again'. Update would be appreciated.
We have now got to the part of our renovation where I need to have a gas tank installed for the heating. I was 'reliably' informed there is not much difference in prices between the suppliers.
Well, having searched the threads on here that is clearly not the case. There have also been some excellent tips on closely examining the contract to avoid lenghty tie ins. So I am now better equipped to negotiate, but I need to understand what is a good price and with global energy prices falling is this now filtering through to the Italian market?
So if anyone has recently negotiated a good deal it would be a great help if they could post the details.
Thanks in advance
P.S. Just an afterthought, Is there an Italian price comparison site for utilities?
i'm not aware of any comparison site for utilities in Italy..
i'm also seeing that there is no apparent drop in gas prices.
i just got 700 litres delivered on the 16th november the total invoice is for Euro 482. including VAT at 20%.I use Totalgaz.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
And I've just had 1,000L from Goldengas at E901.28 - My maths ain't good but it looks like Sebastiano has the better deal
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
We filled our tank last week. Cost was 70c a litre + IVA = 84c but then less an 8c discount because we are not on mains gas. Net price therefore 76c a litre - more expensive than Sebastiao's therefore but the cheapest price we have had for the last 2 years!
I think the rate depends on your supplier and, partly, the deal done at the outset.

the delivery today was exactly this-
delivered 1.850 litres for euro 1.218,50
this was exactly - euro 989,91 gas + 228,59 vat -total 1.218,50
so the total per litre including taxes was euro 0.658.
of course there was the reduction considered of art.8 legge.448/98 in this.

I am so glad that I do not have to rely on GPL for heating or hot water. Just reading some of the prices quoted for filling tanks is beyond reason.
Have just checked my usage from the last Enel reading to today and it works out at 1465Kw since 3rd Nov. in total. Cost based on 0.25C per kw inc iva @ 10% = Euro 366. Therefore, 6 weeks, 24hr heating, DHW and everything else = E61 per week.
