I was hoping for the "Queens" Italian and for you to leave some for others to try. Am I right, the best Italian is from Florence???
Nielo, please can you delete the ones you are not sure of then??? Nardini likewise. What was cool was Carole giving just a few and therefore easy to assimilate.
PS Keep the English words alongside too. Cheers

I thought that was the idea - to do just a few and let others join in too. I suppose I could have gone down the entire list, but then the 'game' (?) would have been over in one post and Sally's object defeated.

And you also deserve an extra personal grazie 'cause I love ya Carole!!! lol Wait 'til J+C see this. She'll sure rocket Nardini - again!!!

PS J+C , don't abuse the privilege I have given you. Once and once only. This would be just a slight diversion. lol

Stai calma Sally, it's been a good day - don't spoil it by getting carried away and trying to take the pee even though you're itching to do it. :nah:
Copy, paste and answer what you can, and If possible also add new English words associated with Autumn.
Sorry Sally I did as you said, copied and pasted into a translation site then posted the answers.
Nielo, please can you delete the ones you are not sure of then???
Again Sally I’m sorry but deleting is not something I do except in exceptional circumstances.
If you want to go through my answers and provide better ones, please feel free to do so.
I would say that the point of this ‘game’ eludes me as those who know the answers…. …know the answers and those who don’t can easily look them up.
Shrug!!!:veryconfused:

Just fill in a few words only either as a guess or by looking up in a reputable dictionary, not Babelfish. Gradually quite a long list of words are learnt and able to be used and understood in conversation immediately. You can add English words also to the list. As I mentioned before Carole perhaps extended our vocabulary by three new words.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
I didn't use babelfish but if I had……….
I was hoping for the "Queens" Italian and for you to leave some for others to try. Am I right, the best Italian is from Florence???
Ah well, Sally - it's hard to judge what may be a children's game, or an adult "game" at times here, isn't it..:winki:
Anyway, perhaps the best way to start would have been for YOU to have started with a few winter words in Italian. I'm not sure that "queens" Italian would have been the ticket though - I find that my old bones ache when I mince these days.
The best Italian from Florence, eh? No, Sally. Whilst it is true that Italian, as we know it, was taken from the dialect spoken in Tuscany, a choice inspired by the fact that Dante Alighieri was both a Florentine and also the most influential writer of the time. Nowadays, of course, it is only Florentines that would claim they speak the "best" Italian - but they would, wouldn't they. Think of it this way, Sally: is the best English spoken in Guildford?
Now back to the thread. Maybe you should have another go, Sally? Be more precise and don't just write dozens of English words - it feels too much like a primary school test for many. :dull:
.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
In fact in was an Italian lawyer with no connections with Florence or Tuscany that told me. And of course the best English is reckoned to be around Inverness and I don't have affiliations there either.
It was run along the same lines as the Summer Italian Word Game a few months ago without any problems. If it's not for you then don't participate perhaps and leave us lesser mortals to enjoy eh???
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
If it's not for you then don't participate perhaps and leave us lesser mortals to enjoy eh???
Sally, I not only participated, but I spent (I would hate to think I wasted) a great deal of time translating all of your words into an Italian dialect, in case people (obviously not you, sadly) might be interested to see how the language actually varies from region to region. Hardly cause to attack me now, is it?
