My condolences - I've had quite a few cats who have reached great ages, and it is a terrible wrench when they finally decide that they have had enough. Luckily I've never faced the problem of getting up in the morning to be without a cat - (we always have at least two at a time) - so I'd definitely recommend that you adopt another one quickly. Treat yourself to a kitten.

Durobird, I am so sorry to hear your sad news. You are right, loosing a pet is loosing part of your family.
It probably won’t be a comfort now, but maybe later, to remember that Misty had a long and good life, she was loved and cared for and in the end you were kind enough to not let her suffer.

Very sorry, Durobird. The inevitable death of our pets is something very hard to overcome. Concentrate on the good memories and the knowledge that you always gave Misty the best of your love and care.

Very pognant and sad news. I know the heartache all too well as my cat died of liver cancer albeit after a relatively short life.

I'm so sorry to hear such sad news... but I'm sure Misty will never be far from your thoughts - will she?
I have found, over time, that this little piece can sometimes help soften the terrible loss of a pet. I hope it can do the same for you.
The Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

So sorry about your news of Misty. I know just how you are feeling. I had to let my little cat go after 21 years. You must console yourself that you gave her a really good, happy life.

Thank you all for your replies and kind words. It helps slightly, even though I dont know any of you.
My mornings are the hardest now, without seeing her when I wake up.
That one little bundle of fur brought me so much love and joy. The pain now is indescribable.

You can never (and would never be able to) replace Misty but, if your circumstances allow, you might consider that there are lots of unloved kittens and cats, who would be so happy to enjoy your love and care and repay you with love and joy.
At the moment I expect your heart aches with love and loss. It does not show any disrespect for Misty if you feel that you need to fill the void she has left in your life.
I am very sorry for your loss durobird, Robert and I know so well the sadness of the death of a much loved pet, it takes time to get over it ,but the happy memories of your time together always remain.
