We always know where to go - but does Sally?

I believe that it would be better to deal with news related (even remotely) to Italy.... Otherwise, I can't see the point of having the group in this Forum. Not all Italian news are discussed in the Forum, so there will be plenty to talk about.
Anyway, I think it would be interesting to discuss current affairs.

IRITALIA I think there should be a Notice Board for things found that don't require feedback. Also the "Italian Politics" section which I remind you is there thanks to my suggestion, could become instead "Italian Politics and Current Affairs"

I'm sorry Sal - wouldn't that just be a list of links? :veryconfused:
Can't anybody find exactly that on things like "Google" and "Ask Jeeves"?
Or do you envisage this Notice Board differently? Can you explain?
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Sure though I don't have time to give this my full attention at the moment, Carole, sorry, but I was envisaging "things" people have found out and that could be useful for fellow members, ,addresses of good contractors for example, adverts for local feste, concerts, exhibitions, goods for sale and so on, not necessarily just links. .

What I was thinking of was a ‘group’ in the ‘GROUPS’ section - non public and with a selected membership – where people who wanted to discuss such issues as the latest appalling case of ‘keeping it in the family’ could do so.
Obviously this has nothing to do with Italy, so would not be suitable on the forum but could be discussed in group. Anyone not interested need not join but I thought I’d find out if there was any interest before setting it up.
I would not envision it to be a place where flippant one liners would be the normal method of communication but some good in depth discussion could take place. It really depends on who would want to take part.

Hi Nielo
Seems a good idea to me; living in Italy or 'loving Italy' certainly does not mean we are divorced from the rest of the world and its troubles and consequences.
There are some on this forum whose views and approach I respect and I would look forward to more indepth correspondence with them.
Today's List:
Mumbai,
Somalia
Incest/rape in UK
Credit/Debt Crunch
DR Congo
etc etc etc
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
It could be interesting providing that there is good, civilised discussion and no fights.
If you start it, I would like to join.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
I agree with Aretina and Gala Placidia. The idea is very good, but if it became just another place for friction and controversy then I'd rather not be part of it.
But if, as suggested by Nielo and supported by others, it really was somewhere where civilised discussion, combined with the acceptance that everyone has the right to an opinion, without fear of ridicule (and that opinion was fully respected), then I think it would be an excellent idea.
When civilised and sensible debate takes place here, it is a pleasure to be involved - irrespective of what the subject matter might be. But when such debate is highjacked purely to create discord, then it is spoiled. There are plenty of opportunities on IM to raise and discuss everyday matters pertaining to life in Italy and time, in those, to career off topic and be frivolous without causing offence. So such a group as suggested by Nielo, could be great!

After thinking a bit about this topic, I came to the realisation that all news, regardless their lieu of origin, will affect our lives in general and even Italy, so we are not getting away from the main reason of existence of this Forum. With globalization and the speed in which we communicate, we no longer live in tiny isolated islands. A good civilised discussion is always stimulating, so I am very much in favour of it, Nielo.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
OK the group is now open. It is a private group so the content can not be viewed by guests or non-members.
If you wish to join please apply.
Whether this group remains a civilised place for discussion is down to the behaviour of it’s members, I can not control (nor would I want to) what is said within the group. However should anyone decide that the group is not for them, it is a simple and easy procedure to leave the group, without impairing your enjoyment of the rest if the forum.
Let’s give it a try and see how we go.
Euro exchange rate

Ok....................
What on earth can we do about the exchange rate,I am pretty much 'protected' but there must be lots of members whose income has effectively been reduced dramatically over the last (5?) years.
Could we identify (not with a sales pitch!) a best place to buy (on price) certain products, I know they change over time
Could we identify (not with a sales pitch!) the best currency rates I know they change over time
I'm ssure there would belots of these that we could help each other with.............
Along with the language classes (in Amandola - 9th Dec)........there must be 'lots' that we can all gain from ???

Sprosoni I have sent your invitation and if you look the discussion has already started but if there is something else you want to add please feel free to do so.
The discussion will only be limited to whatever anyone wants to discuss.
I am thinking of creating a group where people can discuss THE news story of the day/week, when it does not involve Italy.
Would anyone be interested?
Hi Nielo,
I would be interested as well if you are still taking new members.

Avatar update question
Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Wed, 12/10/2008 - 10:21In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
When you add an avatar, how do you get it to update the question mark that currently appears in discussion groups that you are involved with?
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Lisa Hi Go to your Control Panel. There is a link to edit avatar on the left hand side. It will replace the question mark autommatically..
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Hi Sally,
I had already done that and it updated the question mark in my profile but not in the News Group I am a member of. Any other suggestions I could try?
Thanks!
Lisa
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Lisa your new avatar is not displaying in the general forum. I think when you have uploaded and saved an avatar it will replace the question mark.

Your avatar is showing up in The General Forum and has replaced the question mark. Refrssh/Reload your pages in the browser menu.
Nah! Cant be bothered with that. :nah:
Oh go on then - could be fun. :laughs:
