11142 Presepe Vivante Falerone

Just to remind people again of the presepe in Piano di Falerone for one day only Dec 26th starting at 4.30pm.
There are Roman centurians with chariots, the moneylenders in the old Roman amphitheatre and lots of tableaux with sheep and oxen, it is really a wonderful sight, spread over a large area all lit by torches and candles, if you are in the area not to be missed.

The one in Comunanza is also excellent. They light the old town (yes it does have one!) with torches and all the cantinas are open with people wood carving and making lace and spinning. They also have big braziers and donkeys and horses being shoed. Then finally the living presepe on the hill as you leave. Very atmospheric.

Are they still going to be there, despite the creditus crunchius?

actually the one in comunanza, at least up to last year, goes on for a few days..you may even see our builder dressed as a shepherd... but maybe he will have become Giuseppe this year!

The one in Comunanza is on the same day - 26th December and it starts at around 5pm until about 8pm. It is beautiful and the old town certainly does come alive. This year we are visiting the Falerone one with friends for a change as Angie said it does sound fantastic.

So last night we went to the Presepio in Falerone, very cold clear dry night, you walk among the ruins following torch and candle lit paths, a cast of hundreds of local people staging tableaus in the 150plus acres of grounds.
My Italian friend spent much of her time eying up the thighs of the Roman centurians, in their fetching tights ,so much for a deeply moving religious experience for her!, and at the end the nativity scene was enhanced by the ox getting his horns stuck in the drapes and becoming unsettled, the heavily pregnant donkey having a kick at the crib, nearly felling the infant Jesus (luckily this year in the form of a doll), and the sheep trying to make a run for it. And 2 junior shepherds having an impromptu punch up.
But all very charming and beautifully done, and made more real by the animals behaviour.A must for next year.

Wow....sounds great...next year...I will be there...and obviously making great friends with the moneylenders.....though will wait until easter before actually borrowing and hope that the tables get turned over and my debt will be lost in the confusion!! Afterwards I will rise above and neither borrower or lender be....and so... maybe I will just survive the economic decline..........
