Boo Hoo I'd guess though most in Italy will miss the Queen's Speech.
It is on always live on Sky News so we watch that and listen to carols from Kings College on the internet radio.
I'll miss family and friends and won't miss sending Christmas cards to everyone you've ever known and having to pay to go into a pub you drink in all year round on New Year's Eve. (oops thats 2 things I won't miss!)

I I shall miss my kids but I won't miss the stress and hype.
Thanks to Italia Teleconomy I shall indulge in long phone calls to friends and family- still not the same as all being together.
I shan’t miss the feeling of HAVING to have the perfect Christmas with all the RIGHT things
My family
Me too. Although daughter was here a couple of weeks ago.
Won't miss all the hype though. Really having to psyche myself up to even bother with all the Xmas cards I should be sending.

I'll miss (like I do every Sunday morning), the sound of 'proper' bell ringing fom a nearby church.
Of course the Christmas morning ringing was always that much more poignant!
Yes - this I will miss!

I guess it's a matter of choice Sal!
Just turn the volume down and imagine hearing the bells through the icy air on a Sunday morning. You're sitting in the kitchen with a cup of coffee while waiting for the turkey to cook... the Italian version doesn't come anywhere near! (and THAT was the best I found. Generally they really are pretty dire!)

Be grateful you don't live in Rovereto and have to listen to this every night! :laughs:

Purtroppo la campana piu' grande d'italia ma anche una delle piu' brutte - secondo me, di questa e' metallico e non e' armonioso .

We were saying just this morning, surely the Queen's Speech will be available on You Tube? And we'll certainly be listening to caroles on Christmas Eve on the Internet, a big improvement now after years of listening on the crackly World Service on short wave. I used to think I enjoyed not being exposed to all the hype surrounding Christmas in the UK, but Christmas is gradually becoming so much bigger here, don't you all think? It used to be a non-event but now the radio in particular is littered with Christmas theme ads and people are being urged to shop for Christmas, etc in a way they never were before.

Sorry, can't do ‘one thing’.
I will not miss the shops, the shoppers and the rubbish in the shops. I will not miss the crowds, the puke and drunks in the street. I will not miss ready packed cheese selections, gift boxed drinks sets and stocking fillers. I will not miss tinsel, twiglets and tiny skirts. And, I will definately not miss the hype, the stress and the spending.
I will, however, miss the houses with too many outside lights on! (anyone with any good photos, please post them!!!)

Italian bells are definately better and the ringers' dress sense is far less dodgy

JC that bell is really terrible. I have never heard anything more pathetic. It is even worse than the Christmas lights. I think that those are the things you tend to forget!!!!!

Oh yes!!! 40 degrees - perfect right now!!! Many years ago I cruised around the South Pacific on a ship and disembarked at Samoa, a little island with grass huts on Christmas Day. It is of course a tropical island so wonderful warm weather and it seemed a very strange to hear English carols coming too from them!!! (I will try to find the photo to upload) The following day I crossed the International Date Line, so I had another Christmas Day, but on the ship.
