10992 Skiing (etc..) again

Just to whet the appetites of all those that like to slide around on snow.. This looks like being the best start to the season for some time. Cervinia is about 60% open (Valtournanche opens tomorrow). I was up there on the 9th November and the skiing was great, and I've heard more enthusiastic first hand reports since. On the 29th Pila, La Thuile and Courmayeur all open, and depths are looking good, with more snow on the way (it's currently raining here at 600m). The bulk of the Monterosa resorts open around the 6th December although Alagna and Gressoney la Trinite will have limited opening from this weekend.

Update: just went for a cup of tea and looked out the window. Looks like a bit of sleet mixed in, and the snow level on the hillside has crept down since this morning..

OK - not to everybody's taste, I know.:winki:

Looks like I'm talking to the wrong demographic here!

Just to add that my car, here in the valley, is now covered in about 5cm of snow and growing!
It was minus 20C up at Cervinia today, and I'm off to buy some decent gloves this week!

sue ... as the snow increases so does the interest in the prospect of ski discussion... have noted over the weekend and into this week that temps have all dropped in the mountains and the snow is looking good... hopefully there will be no major thaw before xmas ... and that the resorts will do well again this year...

far away from you and most probably the best ski resort out of the alps and the dolomites... the area around Rocarasso has had good snow...

its not that i am interested much in the ski side of things... however my in laws have a holiday home in that area and were speaking to friends up there ...they had snow on the roads... and some locals had already been up skiing ...so it sounds like its a good start....

outside of skiing... the amount of snow that we get in Italy is important not just for the tourist industry... but also our summer water supplies... so despite not being as enthusiastic as you ... i do like to see white mountains... and they are getting whiter and whiter.. ... which always makes me appreciate the seasonal differences of life here... from a distance that is

We're heading over for our first Christmas in Italy and we were hoping to get some skiing in. can anyone update me as to the state of play on the slopes at Passo Lanciano and when, if at all, they are open between Christmas and New Year.
