11145 Ordering goods online from UK

Today, I tried to order some blank DVDs online from the UK, as the prices were very good for what I needed. On both sites ( Amazon & Play.com ) they would not accept an order.
Further research found that Italy imposes quite heavy taxes on blank media, so this is why these companies will not ship.
I found a German site, that would send them, the price twice that in the UK, plus postage and packing E14.00.
Best to bring your own if you use these items. Now looking for a way round the problem!!!

Perhaps not the best time of year to get a friend to queue up at the post office but that's how we have done such a purchase, the goods having been delivered to their house first.

True Noble, should be with an open market though, that for unless restricted goods in the delivery country, we should be able to order easily as long as we pay the sending country vat rate.

Agree but as you know Geotherm it can be quite a challenge to get companies to deliver to Italy in the first place. We often have to resort to friends in the UK bringing things over by car when they come. Perhaps a Forum member living not so far from you can offer to bring the stuff?

Geotherm, is this any use??? DVD, tutti gli oggetti più rilevanti in vendita. I don't know how much Amazon and Play.com were asking

I suggested ebay.it initially, but on ebay.co.uk I see there are people prepared to ship blank DVDs to Italy.

Thanks Sally. Will have a search to see if they have the type and what price I am looking for from reviews that i have read.

Geotherm
I am coming out to Amandola with wife and kids for Christmas. Arriving on Sunday 21st December 2008. We have a house in Monti which I presume is not very far from you.

We are flying but if the DVD's are not too bulky I would be more than happy to bring some over for you. I have paid an annual fee to Amazon for free next day delivery so if you send me details of the DVD's you want I will order them and you can reimburse me when we arrive.

Many thanks for the offer Adrian. Have pm'd you.

Hi Geotherm,
Not sure if this helps, but if you need them urgently, we bought 10 x DVD R+ from the large supermarket in the Battente shopping centre in Ascoli on Monday and they were more expensive than the UK I am sure. They were €10.90 for the 10 but we have seen them in Comunanza for €15 - sooo expensive over here. Lidl sell DVD RW in packs of 5 but can't remember how much they were!

Why don't you try Negozio di Smartphone, Pocket PC & Ultra-Mobile PC - eXpansys Italia which have 10 CD-r for €6.40 or Misco.it :: Informatica & Ufficio which have 50 CD-r for €24.99. Both are reputable firms I have used in the UK for IT supplies.

Still dearer I'm afraid.

Thanks Sarah & Mark, thanks for the offer, but there is no urgency at the moment. I bought 10xTDK discs for E15 last week and 7 are now coasters. The disks that I am looking at are Verbatim, as they use a much higher technology from Taiyo Yuden, so result in better burning.
Thanks also to Penny & Sally for the site links.
Pasted below is from Wiki which explains the problems with recordable media pricing in numerous countries. I could not find the specifics for Italy, but to be sure the levy is high!!

hi there
i just play.com all the time for buying, books, dvds and music..they always take around a week to arrive (and thats to puglia) havent had any problems with orders or delivery! what you need to make sure you are doing is changing the price to euros before you click on pay (if you look in the top right hand corner of the screen there is an icon where you can click from sterling to euros) once you have done this proceed to your shopping basket to pay and thats all you need to do!
hope this helps!

Thanks for that, but even with the price being in Euros they will still not ship Blank Media to Italy. Only to Ireland, France & Germany. I looked on numerous other sites and they all stated the same.

I use amazon all the while, never a problem. My disney princess christmas crackers arrived today..I ordered them last week, i even left a plastic bag for the postie and she kept all my parcels dry for me.. My girls are sooooooo excited to have crackers

I'm boycotting Play.com at the moment due to their exchange rate. If you want items sent to Italy you HAVE to pay in euros & their exchenage rate is still about 1.45 (or it was last time I looked). In my opinion this is outrageous, but in sayting that they are not alone in doing this

Many thanks for all the replies and links for ordering, plus to Adrian for bringing over some blank DVDs for me and others who also offered. On a random search for another item I came across this site, which will deliver blank media and other items to Italy. If you have a Epson printer, their compatible cartridges start from around £1 each.
I ordered 100 Taiyo Yuden dvds, 100 dvd cases, 200 cd/dvd labels and 10 printer cartridges ..... total cost including VAT & postage £78. Minimum postage is £20, so just keep adding to the order for the best deal.
