Hi Jamie,
A friend of mine bought his windows and doors in France as they are half the price they are in Italy.
if you are interested I could get the details from him and post them here for you.
you would need to arrange for delivery and fitting but it could save you alot of money if you want them made of hard wood and with pilkington glass not Italian picture glass!
hope this helps.
sorry cant seem to get private messages you can contact us through our web site if you like Casa Casali

The previous owner of our very old mill had all the external windows replaced by double-glazed PVC windows. You cannot tell the difference between those and solid wood ones with the extra advantage of providing full insulation and needing no maintenance. Nowadays, you can find very many traditional models made in PVC. They cost quite a bit more, but the results are great.

Is that more than plain pvc models Gala or than real wood?
I wanted to perhaps have my small cantina windows replaced with pvc because of heat efficiency and better protection against water infiltraction.
When I told my procuratore he nearly had a kitten and said I should have the original wooden ones retstored. Who knows?

They are PVC but they imitate wood in such a fantastic way that you cannot tell the difference. Plus they have a dual opening system which is great as you can adjust it to your needs. Heat efficiency and protection against water infiltration are fantastic. To restore the original wooden ones may cost you a fortune and they will not be as efficient as these ones. Hubby is a retired architect and he is delighted that the previous owner made that choice. He adds that you should ask for an estimate and that you should save lots of money and headaches in the long run regarding maintenance.
I can assure you that they do not look out of place in our old mill and that was hard to achieve as perimetral walls are 60 cm thick and most of the windows do not fit standard sizes. They have obviously been made to measure.

Iritalia, I have sent you a Private Message with some further local information.
Hi Jamie,
The price will very quite a lot depending on the type. For example, internal shutters are much cheaper than external shutters. I did get a quote a few years ago, and they were around €500 per window, then extra for the shutters. These were hand built, as a lot of the older buildings were hand made of stone, so the actual size does change from window to window. The internal window shutters were around another €200. This was for batch job of 12 windows. However, with them being hand made, delivery times can vary too.
