Had a neighbour in this evening and we cooked supper together. She made the tortellini. Neither of us drank wine and thought there were four dishes they were light and not enormous... we sat chatting for two hours over the meal.
*Tortellini in beef broth
*Small grilled turkey breast steak
*Beetroot, origano and onion salad with balsamico and EVO
*Crusty bread
Iced cinnamon apple with sultana's.
Acqua minerale frizzante

Yours, unfortunately - but it was a paltry affair - just a few crumbs fell from your table.
Bacala - just a taster to see what it was like.
How did they do it and what did you think of it?
Today, so far, have notched up a peanut butter and jam sandwich and a cappuccino. Today I aspire to eat more like Sebastiano and less like JC.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
I like bacala, can buy it from the local fish shop coated in what may be polenta and then deep fried, but have also had it cooked in a tomato and chilli sauce, which is probably much better.

I once did baccala. All that soaking and washing and we were not impressed.
Like Nielo said rather rubbery. I did it the Livorno way with tomatoes and garlic and parsley. Served with a crusty bread

"Today, so far, have notched up a peanut butter and jam sandwich and a cappuccino."
Peanut butter and banana sandwich made with soya and linseed bread for brunch shortly. Did you buy yours Persephone locally, or have it shipped out???
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
If you mean the peanut butter, you can get it at any of the big supermarkets.
Anyone a fan of 'The Royales'? I have desperately been trying to find a clip where Barbara asks Dave what he has had for his tea. Have found loads of YouTube clips but none with this classic in it.
So, what's everyone having for their tea/supper/dinner tonight then...?

Well (jumping ahead) tomorrow night is Burns night so it'll be haggis 'n neep
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
I could only find peanut butter in the co-op in Abruzzo and even then it's junk. Mine in London is sugar, salt and nasties free.
Goodness dinner tonight!!! You sound like someone I know who just after they have eaten they ask about what's on the menu for the next meal!!! lol Too early. However per me I suspect what I had intended to eat last night but somehow it got too late to cook!!! Lo so lo so. Buona cena.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
You can get really good peanut butter in some health food stores, and if anyone has the NaturaSi chain nearby - no branches below Rome unfortunately. The brand is Rapunzel, I think it's German - just peanuts and that's it.
We are having people in tonight, I will be cooking pasta with broccoli and anchovies, hubby cooking roast lamb and potatoes. I will also be making chocolate and almond cake. I really ought to be doing that now...
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Porco cane it's slow on't forum tonight (apart from Noble's uplifting post re Florence night life).
So nothing for it, I'm off down to Aulla for a Kebab - buon appetito tutti.:laughs:
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Someone will probably have closed it down by the time you get there Ghinada - if not - I'll have a large Doner with salad and lashings of chilli sauce. Oh, and a can of Coke please.
Just "Expats"??? More elitsim rearing its ugly head here!!! lol

I forgive you although 'washed down" with Montepulciano D'Abruzzo is hard;y an appropriate expression!!! "Enhanced" yes!!! lol
I love that wine and will have some later with a tomatoey/veggie spaghetti. I usually have my dessert at the beginning and tonight it was a cup of ;lovely hot organic cocoa.
