When you post a thread Lisa, you cannot delete the initial post alas. You can however ask Admin to do so and more than often they respond in your favour.

Aha! Does this mean the naughty word checker has been switched off? Should I test it out and see? (This could be a bannable offence so I'll say goodbye now, just in case - and see you soon at a cinema near you - under yet another guise).
If I'm still here in the morning you will know that;-
a) the naughty word checker is working and this post will be filled with at least 4 asterisks or
b) I'm a reformed character :nah:
Oooer - I've tested it in edit mode - and it aint working - but even I wouldn't have the desire to post a word like that!

Ah, it is the Scunthorpe question, innit, which rivals the West Lothian dilemma, (neither of which have any connection with Mornington Crescent). To met a mixaphor.

It's kinda related to Scunthorpe but the naughty word basher used to hit you on the head with a baseball bat for the slightest thing. We were never able to use words like "w***** or b*****", and as you can see from the asterisks, we still can not - but we can use far worse - without the word being encapsulated within another word.
For example;-
s***
t***
c***
If you don't believe me - go to advanced mode in a post and then to preview post and try it out for yourself.
(I put the first letters followed by the asterisks to give you a clue which words I'm talking about)

Although you can nor delete a thread once you have started it, you can edit the initial post, to read something completely different.
I thought the delete function (part of the edit button) had a specific use. I.e. if you post something stupid or nasty (or both) you can then wait until it has been read, offended the person it was aimed at and evoked a response, then remove it without trace and play innocent.
Not tried it myself but seen it done on numerous occasions.
Most often the delete function is genuinely used when someone posts a duplicate message by mistake or if they realise the information they have given was inaccurate, but most people shy away from using ‘delete’ because of its now sinister connotations.
Read this quickly in case I decide to………
You cant delete a thread that you have started Lisa - you can only delete the contents of the first post - not the actual thread itself. Anyway, it wont be the first time a topic has cropped up more than once on the forum - so let it stay. Don't worry about it - it may bring some decent replies.
