11725 New ENEL account

Hi

I'm hoping that someone may be able to give me some advice on setting up an account with ENEL for our house in Abruzzo. Our problem is that as the house wasn't lived in for many years before we purchased it, we have no bills from the last owner. Whenever I read anything about setting up a new account, this seems to be very important. How do I go about setting up a brand new account? What information or documents do I need? I think we will need a new meter as well because what is there looks very ancient! As we don't speak Italian, is this something that we can do ourselves or is it likely we'll need to pay someone to do it for us? Also, can it be done on the internet or do we need to visit our local ENEL office?

Any help would be most appreciated!

Many thanks
Buff

I am sorry to say that you cannot do anything at this point on the internet and really you will also need the help of someone who speaks Italian when going to the ENEL local office. Sometimes the Estate agent who sold you the house will help. ENEL is not a customer driven company and a lot of waiting....months, may be necessary. There are very helpful Abruzzese here on the Forum so you may like to be a bit more specific as to where your house is.

Hi Noble, thanks for your reply. I was worried that may be the case, but unsure how to go about getting it sorted. Do you know what documents we will need? Our house is in Ofena, in the province of L'Aquila. It's the next village to Capestrano.

Many thanks again.

Dear Buff I could say you need your Codice Fiscale and your PS and proof you own the house etc and when you get to the ENEL office the "jobs worth" there will say you have forgotten something. So take every single document and piece of paper that relates to you and your house and your Passport too. But really unless you go with an Italian speaker you will possibly, not make any progress and leave furious and frustrated. What's your relationship like with the agent you paid a buyers fee to???

Sounds like good advice from Noble. And when it's all sorted, it will probably be like London Double Deckers, having waited for ages, 3 bills will turn up at the same time. ENEL SchMenel.:winki:
