11737 Backing up DVDs

Hi,

There was a thread a while back from Tuscanhills about the Iomega HD which was used to store DVDs for travelling. This is a great idea but has a few technically baffling elements

My question to the techies out there, first of all how do you copy an encrypted DVD to the hard drive and secondly if you are using the Iomega how can it play direct to a TV without the use of Windows Media.

Would memory sticks work I wonder instead??? They go as high as storing 8 gbs.

Hi Chris.
Firstly you will need a conversion program if the DVD is encrypted. If you do a google search for say "copy DVD to hard drive", then there are quite a few articles and software solutions there. e.g. Copy protected DVD | Copy protected movies | Copy CSS encrypted DVD | Copy any DVD and CD
For playback on tv, many flat screen tvs now have the facility for pc input, so, best solution may be to test out the software and see if it works on your own pc and then if so, try playing back through a tv.
8 gb memory stick will probably not hold more than 1 film, unless you recode to an AVI format.
