- and read a book, listen to music, watch tv,, diy and so on. If going out, cinema, theatre, car trips and so on. Nothing overly physical!!!! The only thing one doesn't do in the winter months is eat at ristorante outdoors.

Nordic walking is a type of energetic walking with poles - a sort of "no snow" cross country skiing! See here Nordic Walking
Does sitting in front of the stufa qualify as activity? Isn't it more inactivity?:laughs:

The point is that I for one feel the poll is redundant or will merely cater for very few ie the active ones. I set up a poll about Forum features and only 8 have replied!!! A complete waste of time!!! However that's not to say I have learnt from my experience to date and won't post another one!!! lol

Thanks for the link Penny, this forum is an education for me sometimes. Stufa sitting is not always passive, I manage to raise my arm for the odd sip of wine!:laughs:

Well, for me it is very informative or else I wouldn't have done it!
I already know what types of activities italians like to do when here, but have no real idea what stranieri like to do. If no-one responds then I have my answer don't I? They don't like doing anything active at all!
We find it quite boring here in winter and getting out into the mountains keeps us sane, so we're interested to see if others feel the same and if so, what activities do they like doing other than hibernating or sleeping the winter off!

Penny I am in a snappy mood at the moment and didn't mean any offence. I'm sorry.
You're busted!

You've blown your cover I'm afraid. I just took a look at your website where it says "Robert is a keen walker"!! I suspect you manage a little more than raising your arm for a quick tipple, unless you have invented armchair walking:laughs:

Yes Robert is a walker but what about Angie??? lol

I am with Angie an Robert on this one but if you want something more active try rumpy pumpy in front of the stufe (try not to spill your wine tho!)

Many of the people that I know who 'fly in' to their 'holiday' places up here in the winter, come for the one 'biggie' that you forgot.... :winki:

I think this sort of market research can be really useful, but rather than putting it in the 'culture and entertainment' forum which caters for
Museums, exhibitions, concerts, events, books and films
I'd have used the 'sport' forum since most of those options that you've listed could be classified in that way.
For what it is worth I'd have included all those cultural activities which can take place over those months - seeing historical sites, following ancient itineraries, going to the opera, concerts, theatre &c, not to mention attending courses...

Good luck with the research anyway.

But where is the 12 hours a day labouring on a building site box?

Where I live in Umbria quite a few people that are permanent residents (British), relocate for as long as 3 months to the Dolomites, dogs and all. Some even invite friends from Umbria to go up and join them for cross country skiing trips, living "rough" and eating well for a week or so. Others have Camper Vans and go to Sicily. We walk ...him more than me, and I go to gymnastic classes as a penance for preferring to sit by the stuffa and read books. In summer we are hardly in doors at all but winters can be harsh at 627 mts. Even the cyclists wait for temperate days, which we are having at the moment.

:smile:Hi
Just popped by having finished my compiti (homework), am just about to start 5th week of Italian at a language school in Arezzo. Really enjoying it so much so we have put off having a holiday ourselves before the season starts in April. Especially good as OH and I are each having one to one lessons because there are so few students about at the moment, recession, etc etc etc. Have paid for group courses and getting one to one, for me that's great. So not much time for outdoor activities except the occasional walk with Vaz, our gorgeous dog. However, this amount of cerebral activity is doing us a power of good, like they say a change can be as good as a rest!
Whats Nordic walking please Penny?, and can we add sit by the stufa and keep warm!
A
