Why can't you stamp a "grazie" on a deleted post? Or is the answer too obvious?
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
If it is a Ryanair thread the language will get so colourful it will be full of deleted messages... now there was somethng in the weekend paper what was it.... hmmmmm....oh yes, cutting of checking in desks and the start of phones on planes, both of which should get the shall we say, hmm don't know how to describe it, easily confused and/or easily annoyed passengers very agitated.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
As someone who does not particualrly relish the idea of flying but recognises it's necessity in modern life then the recent moves by Ryanair to remove check in but allow in flight phones only makes my perception of the whole Ryanair experience soemwhat less than it was. In 1990 I flew between Chicago and Phoenix on an American Airlines flight where they had a telephone for the use of passengers. The phone was commandeered for the whole flight by one guy who told all the people he could ring that he was 30,000' above Texas. What joy that flight was!!!!!!

I suspect the price of making the calls will ensure that it's not used that often. Your average multi-millionaire doesn't fly RyanAir ;)

For precision, (and I remember button B!), it never worked on a threepenny bit, did it? The hole was to tall, and too thin: it only took pennies, and I think you had to poke four of them into it!

So are we now going to post any info abot Ryanair in this new group then, or mess about here??? Whilst the decision is being made see Ryanair's new routes programme for the coming season............ Ryanair.com - New Routes

Thank you for that, we have Ibiza as our new route.
I think I will stick to Ryanair for weekends away only, too stressful for holidays when you have luggage.
However, last winter when we were looking for weekend destinations we though Mr O'L had shot himself in the foot rather as his timetable from Liverpool didn't work out too well for weekends away, and we had to use Easyjet oh dear what a shame... still a scrum at return airport...

Well it seems that with this new group set up by Nielo as I am on her Ignore List, no point me joining it as she says she doesn't trust me not to post something untoward. So Noble I will continue my Ryanair posts here for the time being until the girl sees sense!!! lol

Well Sal, I am sure that it is a case of looking at both the main Forum and the Ryanair Group, if one is interested enough!
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Indeed, but "Yours Truly" will not be able to participate in the group discussion. You can imagine then frustration will undoubtedly ensue!!! lol

Sadly delusional? How very dare you! I am delusional, but never sad!
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Yes, well. Sadly delusioned I joined the group (only to paste a link to enough Ryanair bleating to keep afficionados enthralled for about a month). Now, what I want to know - okay, I'll try it for myself - if I leave the group will my post remain, like a horrible electronic slime trail attesting to my weakness?

Charles, if I were not already a happily married man, I would consider making a proposal of marriage to you on bended knee. However, no matter how sally delusional I am, I can not ignore the fact you are a male and therefore, I must resist that urge and instead, thank you profusely for your wonderful link contribution in the Bryanair Group.

This is going to be like lighting the blue touch paper and retiring.
On Radio this lunchtime Ryanair defended their proposals to charge for the use of the toilet whilst in flight.I kid you not.

"You and Yours" on Radio 4 are inviting e-mails currently on suggestions for Ryanair's next charges introductions. It was suggested charging for boarding via the steps or to save there is a trampoline alongside to catapult yourself!!! Wonderful vision!!!!

OK let's say an average flight has 150 passengers. Elasticity (as in the Economics sense) of bladder and bowells will generate demand of perhaps 1 visit per flight per 15% of passengers.
So, 150 x 15% x 1 unit of currency = 22.50 units of currency per flight
Say each plane does 5 trips a day and there are 168 planes in the fleet
On an annual basis that would equate to a gross, new revenue stream of:
22.50 x 5 x 168 x 365 = 6,898,500 pounds or euro (assuming 1 unit of currency per pop). :eeeek:
Could be money in muck - even more if they charged a quid to get back out of the loo again:bigergrin:
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
6,860,700.00 units of currency actually.
I believe Bryanair don't fly on Christmas day or New Years day, but of course you would have to add an extra days takings in any Leap year (just trying to cover my ass here Gander!)

So if you've got no cash (say you've spent it all in the duty free), but absolutely have to go (say you've drunk all the duty free on board) - are they going to risk a refusal??
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Think about it - this plan to make passengers pay for YKW is quite dastardly.
In fact I'd go as far as saying it borders on being a stroke of absolute genius. Why? Well obviously Joe and Jenny Public are going to rebel against such expense. But they will still have to carry extra weight as far as coins go. That will cause RA to consider including pocket contents when weighing in flight luggage. And for those who have no intention of 'paying for a pee' RA will start selling colostomy bags or individually packed Tena Lady 'in flight' at some ridiculously inflated price!
The alternative is quite simple and doesn't bear thinking about:
How clever is that? :laughs:

Quite right Fiona. To be invited onto the radio / TV or wherever for free publicity, there has to be a reason - so he invents one. Like all the charges, credit card booking, hold luggage, check in desk, priority boarding, extortionate food and drink prices - if all of this means I can fly for £5 each way, I'm all for it. I play the system. I have an electron card, (saved over £100 this year already as I have booked flights for friends and family as well), buy my sandwiches and water at the airport (Boots meal deal with my Boots health club card so I get 10% off), take hand luggage only and make sure I am at the front of the 'steerage' queue at the boarding gate. If the toilet charges do come in - which I doubt - I will go BEFORE boarding and then again when we land. Play the man at his own game I say. It's the transportation I want, not the extras.

Good for you for accepting Ryanair for what it is. However, I have to point out that Ryanair is a flipping business, it's not a game Mr O'Leary plays just to get up peoples noses.
I know I have banged on about this before (and really should be doing so in the padded cell. sorry Group topic so kindly created for us Ryanair supporters/knockers), but can we please put this in a business perspective!
It's 2009 and most of us to do a round trip to anywhere in Italy for £50 or less. If you have to pay a £1 to take a leak and that helps keep the over all price low, then that has to be good doesn't it? If he can get people to stop cramming overhead lockers with oversized bags and all their shopping, handbags, gifts and so on, well that's just grand in my book.
If you get satisfaction from "having played them at their own game" by penny pinching and potentally cause yourself discomfort just to save a quid, that just seems really petty and short sighted.
I just happen to think if we all played your game, Ryanair would go to wall and we'd all be losers. Or would you be happy to use an alternative carrier?
I don't buy priority boarding and I generally travel with one piece of regulation sized hand luggage. I buy a drink and something to eat on board and it sometimes cost me £5!! Do I begrudge the £5, hell no. Sometimes, I become so extravagant I even buy a scratchcard.
Just remember for the future that your Boots meal deal will have to be put into your hand luggage, together with your handbag or you'll have to cough up £30, which will make for an expensive lunch!

No offence to you all, but the group is just an unwieldy never-ending thread. I have no interest in searching through dozens (to become no doubt thousands) of messages just to look for anything interesting on Ancona/RyanAir! The regular forum is much more friendly for people who don't live here every day of their lives and track every post made :(
I posted the above in the 'group' as well - but since most can't see that I thought I'd duplicate it here.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Russ, I agree with much of what you're saying - RyanAir is, of course, a business. I don't believe an airline can charge you for using a toilet however. It's a basic human right in my opinion and whilst many places on terra firma can justify it, they can do so because there is always an alternative. Being 2.30hrs without an alternative isn't reasonable. The cost of cleaning seats wet by children (and drunk adults) would soon negate any profits made from charging in the first place. Additionally, what happens on a scheduled 1 hour flight which becomes a 2 hour trip due to airborne delays? Do they then allow everyone a 'free' wee? It's unworkable on a jet.
.................plethora of irrelevant posts about Ryanair on a forum supposedly for ‘lovers of all things Italian’.
Ryan Air - The Consumer Forums
For example.
I am sorry to take issue with you on this Nielo, but as Ryanair takes more people to and from Italy than any other carrier and has assisted a large proportion of the expats living in Italy, I cannot agree that Ryanair is irrelevant to Italymag or for "lovers of Italy".
There are lots of things that are discussed here that are generic topics and whilst not Italian per se, have a relevance to Italy.
If we get so purist about what to discuss here, it will lose its' appeal to the wider audience will it not?
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
While understanding the points of those to whom Ryanair is an irrelevance, to those of us who do not reside permanently in Italy or those who rely on travellers to the UK for our livelihood, Ryanair is an integral part of our Italian experience. If discussion about ryanair was ‘banned’ from the forum where would it stop. No talk about car hire and all that goes with it, no talk about car routes to and from the UK, would all discussion of air travel be excluded. Without Ryanair, I would have visited Italy once last year instead of the 9 times I did. We would have had virtually no visitors from the UK. All except 2 came with Ryanair.
All the threads are clearly labelled so those who wish to avoid Ryanair threads please do so. It is not compulsory to contribute to every thread (is it?) :wideeyed:

Oh my God! Bryanair have a fanclub Forum? What joy - I'm off to sign up - so long as O'Leary aint charging a joining fee.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
For me the Italymag.website is about Italy and things Italian etc.. Ryanair is not an integral part of this anymore than BA or the now lost Alitalia. It seems that one or two blog members were/are obssessed with Ryanair and this has been/is an irritation.
Yes, Ryanair has allowed many to come and live here and visit but that is not the point of this website.
Car hire is also a part of holidays and life here - but we dont all go one about Avis......................................for months ------------------------and months at a time!
I'm surprised I haven't heard via this blog that Mr. O'Leary has visited the toilet at 8.27am GMT!
I think many have been lulled into moving here/travelling here when the transport costs were more reasonable and the routes more convenient. Things dont always stay the same:no: It seems that all this 'complaining' about Ryanair is because decisions were taken when conditions were more favourable and now 'one' wants to cry foul.
You can just imagine him laughing tears into his Guiness if he ever was sad enough to read the Ryanair stuff. Because he knows whatever he does, enough people are still going to travel with him.
Here we go again!

Why is it this particular subject gets up so many peoples noses and descends into thinly veiled insults being posted? Sad indeed.
There have been many examples on the forum of threads running for months and months, which had absolutely nothing to do with Italy, but nonetheless people were interested and posted their thoughts. That is our right.
The puppies in a ditch thread for example - all very heartwarming, but for dog haters who couldn't give a monkeys, how irritating that must have been to see such an out pouring of sentiment over some poor creatures that just so happened to have been found in ditch in Italy!
Your thread on your longing for a parsnip, may well have been ridiculed and called sad, but did anyone berate you for it? No, they did not.
So, I will continue to post about Ryanair and anything else I believe has an association with Italy.
If you don't like it, don't read it. It's that simple.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Hi Russ
Not sure if you are referring to me but it's sad if you thought I had posted 'thinly veiled insults,' like you I was enjoying a moment to express my opinion on the way the forum has been running for a few months now on the Ryanair saga. As for longing for a parsnip,,, the mind boggles.
Buona Domenica
What a great idea Nielo - thanks very much for this. I've joined already.
