We have a '3' modem dongle which works the same in UK and Italy. You get dial up speed of course. We have just returned from Italy after two weeks, had the email on all day and surfed quite a bit and used about 40% of our monthly allocation. It costs £4.90 per month. You just need to check that where you are going in Italy has '3 Italia' coverage.

Thanks for this I will look into this it sounds really good and probably what we are looking for.

Coppicer,

We have considered mobile broadband as the monthly :smile:standing charges for Telecom Italia are quite a lot. I didn't know whether it would work in Lunigiana, is the 3 coverage quite good?

Coppicer, Can you tell me if you can also get the 3 network on your phone at your house? I ask because I have a UK 3 network phone and can use it easily iin lots of areas near our house (Monti, Bastia etc.) but not in Licciana or beyond which is where our house is.

I saw a chap flogging 3 network dongles at Pisa airport and asked him who I could write to at 3 Italia about extension of their network. He surprised me by saying that the two systems (i.e. phone network and wireless broadband network) were completely separate and, as the 3 website says our area is covered, we could use a 3 dongle.

I would be very surprised if their dongle worked in an area where there was no phone coverage, but what do I know? Any experience?
