11946 annual car insurance advise please

We have over the last year taken a annual insurance for rental cars, and ths is a good saving against the hire companies insurance, however we are going to hire an Alfa Romeo spyder 1983 for a special occasion, but find that our usual annual ins does not cover this, ( we have asked and they have said this is not covered ) as the insurance is due for renewal soon, anyone know of a company that will extend an insurance or cover this for the week, without taking the hire companies huge insurance.

Thanks and regards Lin

You could try talking to All you need to know about Car Hire Insurance from Questor Insurance

Their 'typical policy' has the clause;-

"14. The rental of "Expensive or Exotic" vehicles not considered to be a conventional and usual rental vehicle, and “Antique” vehicles, which are over 20 years old or which have not been manufactured for 10 years or more. Any vehicle with a Retail Purchase Price in excess of US$ 80,000 will not be insured unless specifically agreed by the underwriters (minimum of 4 working days) prior to rental."

This seems to provide a small chink of hope for you - depending on how they define the Spyder.

Otherwise, I'd suggest you talk to a specialist car insurance broker.
