Yes me Lisa!, Osteria del Lago,
tel 0733 660477, or 3398456083
Still one of my favourities, for the food, the friendly service, and the beautiful views from the lake up into the mountains, also very good posted walks around the lake to walk off that lunch.
Eat inside in a small charming dining room or outside in shade or sun, on a large terrace

Lunch in Fermo
Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Mon, 03/30/2009 - 15:51In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Hi
We had a lovely lunch in Fermo one day last year but i can't remember what the restaurant was called - it was high up on the edge of the town but on the town side of the road - there was an open area in front and it was near some municipal offices - from what I remember it had vaulted ceilings (I think). We'll probably go again when we are over at Easter so will post an update then

Try this website : La Vita Le Marche: A Guide to the Le Marche Area Italy.Area Guide to Holiday Accommodation, Restaurants, Businesses and Tourist Information there is a restaurant guide to the area, there is also a booklet with all the info in too which is availabe in some tourist offices.
An English couple have set this up for Us Brits in the area ,we have been working our way through the restaurants and found some fantastic places to eat, plus it has a lot of other useful info.

I do think it is a useful guide Jan, but they do sometimes seem to present everything as fantastic and authentic, having said that we have enjoyed eating at some of the places bar one, where they said English is spoken, and I told the old irritating old guy to just go away in Italian. having said that lots of English people there, and it seemed to be mostly English were having a fab time, hardly an Italian experience, but perhaps I am being irritable and like to enjoy my indifferent dinner in peace.

Just remember there is no lake at the moment! Just a small river and some muddy banks.

But even when the lake is not full Penny it is a haven for wildfowl and ergrets, so always something to see. When does it get filled again? perhaps Keith can tell us.

If I remember rightly A, it is about this time of year the lake is filled, with the melt-water from the mountains (we were walking along the river bed the day before it was filled!). We love the restaurant - last year we were all sat outside on February 15th dining in the sunshine and even though the staff thought we were mad, it was wonderful. The restaurant inside is lovely also.
The lake is beautiful in all seasons and we like to take the dogs down, on the walk which starts from the restaurant, to see the deer. Its so peaceful - we even saw a heron dive for a fish right in front of us and in the summer the frog chorus is amazing!

It should be sometime soon when they close the dam again. As we have a very good view from here, then I will let you all know.
P.S. It appears from what we have heard that they will be culling some of the deer in the park, as there are too many for its area. I saw 14 a couple of days ago on the evening walk with the dog, so will keep counting. Best time to see them, if anyone is interested is early evening, when they are all down close to the road.

I have to say the restaurants that are our favourites from the old 2007 copy of La Vita [its has more in than subsequent copies] are very Italian and only a couple of times have we heard an English voice amongst the customers, and the food has been truely excellent.

If I recall..........the dam is 're-filled' somewhere around May/June, it is emptied during the winter for 'technical reasons'.....
Personally I think it is at it's best when full, viewed bothe from the restaurants or from the surrounding hills.............

Another good restaurant, that may be worth trying on the Fermo - Amandola road. It's is at Magliano di Tenna and called Il Veliero. It is on the ground floor of the shopping precinct, just after the newish roundabout coming from Servigliano direction. Tel 0734 631937. If anyone needs better directions then PM me
We have eaten there a few times now and food and prices are very good.
Today for 3 of us, seafood antipasti, grilled sole, mixed seafood grill (monkfish, langoustine, sole& prawn ) pork steak (2 pieces) Milanese, patate forno x 2, green salad. Wine, water, coffee and liquers. Total Euro 54.00.
The place was very busy lunchtime, as it appears lots of workers go in, but that is a recommendation in itself.

Lago San Ruffino

Lago San Ruffino is now being refilled, think it started late yesterday. Also it appears that the English library at the Osteria has now been re- opened as well.
Hello everyone
Also, I would like to start travelling further afield and trying out some new restaurants in general. I have never eaten in Fermo and wonder if anyone can recommend a good pizza/pasta/meat place - nothing expensive just nice!
Rough guidelines for how to find any recommendations would be great.
Thanks!
Have you tried some of the Italian run agriturismos? We have had good meals at all we have stayed at and many locals eat there as well. One of our favorites is Montorso, in Monte Rinaldo. We have been staying there for the past 5 years and have become good friends of the family. In addition to being a great cook Graaiana and her family are very hospitable and the atmosphere is lovely.
We also have enjoyed the restaurant in Monteleone di Fermo, which has fabulous views from the terrace and the restaurant at Lago di San Ruffino. Sorry, I don't have the names of either written down but I think someone else on the Forum had also recommended the restaurant by the lake.
