We follow ItaliaNEWS which is useful for Italian news in English as well as Italian (as well as Italy Magazine of course) but we are very new to it also and just finding our way around.
Another useful site if, like us, you have holiday rental homes is Holidaycrunch which is linked to Twitter and has just been launched. You will need a Twitter account to use it.
If you want to follow us, our Twitter name is thehideaway - hopefully we will find out what it is all about and it will become more interesting as we learn!

me too, just started a day or so ago trying to figure out what the fuss is. Apparently to begin with it seems pointless then when people start following you it starts to kick in. We'll see...

I've been following the chat on Italy on twitter for a while now. You'll find a lot of US travel writers and property people pimping their stuff. Also, a lot of people using twitter as a replacement for instant messaging, which can be quite tiresome. Lots of Americans dreaming about being in Italy. And then there is the spam. But it is good for news, and there are the odd gems of information that pop up as well. It is also good if you are trying to find something out. There are a lot of knowledgeable people out there who can help if you just pose the question.
You may enjoy the posts of my favourite new blogger on life in Italy (although he is not for everyone) - the pisan heathen. He has great posts on twitter - have a look at his 'tweetards' series.
The best way to find people to follow on twitter is look at who someone with the same interests as yourself is following. You will find wierdos following you. They're normally trying to get their follower count up and follow you in the hope that you will follow them in return. I've had Miss Hot Body Hawaii follow me. Now I'm sure that might be of interest to the chaps, but I'm really don't believe that she was interested in Italy!
I would also recommend that you download TweetDeck. It is free, and will give you a much better experience of twitter. You can set up searches and see everything in one place, although you still have to go back to twitter itself to view followers.
You can find me on twitter occasionally - @italytutto
