The cost is almost all in transport so you need to find someone very local to you. Any local farmer who has cattle or sheep will be able to help

The problem is that none of the farms have animals! it is all crops and fruit trees. Hence my question. I have spotted the odd herd of sheep presumably brought down from the mountains as they move swiftly on.

Farmers in Italy do not keep cows outside, so it is hard at times to spot who has them. What you need to look for is long sheds, which will either be cows or chickens. Another option s to look up in the yellow pages here for horse stables. I would not really trust latame (manure) here in Italy for what's likely went into the animals, but am likely wrong in doing so. Horse manure would be my preference over and chicken, better still.

I would try riding schools.  There is a placewith horses  just on the outskirts of Colmurano, and they normally have an enormous heap of manure in their field.  You would probably have to bag it and take it home yourself. Also at Abbadia di Fiastra they have horses.
