8671 Sicily In April?

Hi
No guarantees I know but can anyone advise what the weather is generally like in April. Thinking of getting away with kids for a few days during school break and wondering if Sicily a good bet. We go to northern Tuscany in summer but hear it can be a bit wet April time.
Also only spent a day a couple of days in Sicily in Catania and Taormina before so would apreciate any recomendations on areas or places to stay (pref agritourismo but good for kids and possibility of swimming / beach etc at this time of year)?
Many Thanks

absolutely great in April..spring ...flowers out..no tourists except in Taormina..wouldn't try swimming if you paid me though...empty beaches..pools closed..most sicilian comuni have good web sites in english too where you can see av.temperatures, rainfall, places to stay, things to do,places to eat, museums, sites and other attractions.if you've been to the east why don't you try the west-palermo,san vito lo capo-selinunte (not to miss)or go to the Egadi islands off the coast from Trapani/marsala.

Hi Steve
I agree with Sebastiano. April is a great time to visit. The weather is great and not as harsh as the summer months. Why not try Cefalu or the Madonie region or Nebrodi all very beautiful.

Steve,

Everyone is correct that April is a good time to visit Sicily/Italy. Touring weather will be perfect, although you can get some rain and the water/beaches won't be quite ready for swimming. My favorite months in Italy are May and June. Definitely avoid July and August. Anyway, if you have a few days to spend in Sicily, and have already done the eastern side of the Sicily, I would recommend Palermo or Agrigento. There is a lot to see and do, best bet is to get a good guide book with current info. If you have a chance, check out my travel to Sicily blog.

Hi, there was an article recently in the Irish Times about bringing a baby to Sicily - might be of some help!

here's the link in any event: Bringing bambino - The Irish Times - Sat, Nov 15, 2008

My highlights: Trapani, The Valley of the Temples, Siracusa and Noto.

Hope you've a great time.

April is the start of the season here, Easter weekend usually brings the opening of pools, etc. If you're coming at the end of April there are all the various St George celebrations - Eurochocolate in Modica, and at Easter the many and various Easter rituals, especially in Ispica and Scicli in the province of Ragusa. The islands can still be a bit windy in April, but the island is spectacularly green - most visitors see it brown and arid in the summer months. Its an ideal time to visit Segesta, Selinunte as well as the vendicari nature reserve near Noto or the reserve at Castellamare near Palermo. Walking in the Cava d'Ispica - a 13km long valley full of Bronze Age and early Christian tombs and caves is delightful in the spring. Cava Grande at Avola, or Erice in the province of Trapani. You wont be disappointed.

I agree that April is a good time to visit Sicily to witness Holy Week and Easter celebrations. One of the most iconic events is I Misteri di Trapani. Also, Trapani is one of my favourite places in Sicily, so you could just explore the beaches and nature around the city. Weatherwise, April is perfect for sightseeing and hiking, but not that suitable for a beach vacation. But seeing empty beaches is an attraction by itself, I think. But if you are after a real beach holiday, come in May or even Juen when it gets warmer. Also, spring in Sicily is the time of wildflowers and seafood like sea urchins, so you should enjoy it.
