You could ask David Dove for a quote. He also has a company called Trans Riviera which specialises in part-loads hitched onto other companies spare container capacity. He then stores and or tranships from his warehouse in Grasse, France. He has done a small job for us and was hard-working, reliable and reasonable. We will certainly get a quote from him if we move much from the UK in the future. He usually posts on the Angloinfo website.
Anything, Anytime, Anywhere
You name it - it's moved!
Nothing is too big
Nothing is too small
From one item to the whole house
Short - long term storage available
With collection & delivery service
Contact David on

I haven't heard of the Angloinfo site, do you have the web address please. Thanks for your help
Lyn

www.angloinfo.com.
This is a website for three areas of France. Look at the French Riviera and Cote D'Azur section. David regularly posts in the classified section under Van with a Man or Transriviera. I have pasted his last post into my previous recommendation. Add the french prefix when dialling. He is often very busy assisting people with their moves but will get back to you when he is back at home.

Just received 1st quote !!! Here goes. This is from East Midlands to San Vito dei Normanni in Puglia.
As a part load at THEIR convenience:
From UK house to store : £411.25+
Storage : £47 per week+(2 weeks)
from Store to house in San Vito : £ 5035.40+
Total : £ 5540.65
As special load ( i.e. the date we give them to deliver so presumably it comes on its own)....wait for it !!!
From store to house in San Vito : £9922.88 +UK house to store and storage !!!!!!!!!
I'm not sure our furniture is worth £5500...let alone £9922 !!!
I am now exploring possibility of just having personal items shipped ...someone else is coming Thursday week......their web-site says £240 for 1st carton then £40 per carton thereafter.....anyone know of any other companies who just ship cartons ??But unless I am not reading their site correctly, it looks like we would have to hire a van and pick the cartons up from Naples!!
I haven't mentioned any company names here, as I'm not sure where we stand on that , Charles perhaps you could advise.
Also , in terms and conditions it says 'quote does NOT include customs duties, inspections or taxes payable to government bodies'...are there any if it is within th EU ?
I'm sure I read about someone who came through Switzerland ( I thinbk they brought the stuff themselves) and they had real problems at the border....or did I dream it ???...don't know if i'm my head or my heels at the moment !!!!
Watch this space for next quote...if it ever materialises ...and the 'carton one'.....next week
OOOOOOOOh..our very own Soap Opera !!!!!! Removalland !!

Alex and Lyn, your quote of £9000+ is outrageous ! We were quoted £2111.50 for 20.82 cubic metres to go from Newcastle to Naples. OK, granted we wanted to go to Puglia but on the companys web site they only went as far as Naples. The web address for this company is www.EuropeanRemovals.com, and they have a freephone number which is 08009805867. Try it and let us know how you get on.

Thanks for replying, I'm going to have a look at the site.
Did you use this company and if so , how did you get your stuff from Naples to Puglia and how much did that cost ??
Lyn

We only got the quote from them a couple of weeks ago. I think they will probably go to Puglia though. The only reason we got quoted to Naples was that there wasn't the option for puglia on their website, however, if you ask them nicely............they might just go all the way to San Vito Dei Normanni. It'll probably cost a bit more but worth a try.

I did the on - line quote and mine came to about £2100...bit of a difference to the 1st one I got !!!
I'm going to ring them today and get all the gen.....reading it a bit better, they do talk about a door to door service...I'll post results of phone cal..
VERY IMPRESSED WITH THEM SO FAR...THEIR WEB-SITE IS AMAZING
Thanks so much for telling me about them.

:D :) :D :D :P
Well, I'm over the moon !!!
Just spoke to Marc at European removals (see web address on previous post) and have been quoted £2800 inc vat for the following :
This is based on 30 cubic metres of contents
Pick up from UK house
3 weeks storage
Delivery to house just outside San Vito dei Normanni in Puglia
Bit of a difference eh??
I am doing my own packing but you can opt for them to do it, and I am leaving it up to them when they can deliver. ( they could have done Pick up UK straight to Italian house for about £2250, but we need storage for a few weeks while we complete in Italy and should have about a month between completion of Italian house and us physically moving, so this suits us.
We have opted to buy packing cartons from them which is extra but still reasonable ( see web-site)
Insurance is optional extra as well
They don't send out an estimator , you just use a bit of poetic license with what they have listed on their 'get a quote' page to give a reasonable idea of volume.
They actually give you the volume when they have loaded it on the van. If it is over estimate , it is £75 per cu metre extra, and if it is less, they refund . I think this is brilliant because if you did want to add or deduct any items before the day, you can ( auction rooms here I come !!!)
Well, here is one happy bunny...hope the info is useful to other people......and a BIG thankyou to Flyingveepixie for giving me the info in the first place....WELL DONE......you are a star !

We used Eagle Relocations (cant remember their details but if you google them you should find them). They were very very user friendly.

Our move to Italy is on hold at the moment, but we researched many companies and found Greyline Overseas Direct to be the best & definitely the most helpful - they also came in with a very good price.
Landline: 01474 816542
They also have a website, can't remember the address...

i would like to say a big thankyou to those that responded to this posting..... the sort of experience related here helps a lot when people are planning moves.... when we did it we gave up.... the quotes were just not within what i would call reallity..... if i had only known of flying pixies i could have brought more of my favorite books with me.... and also alex and lyns precise breakdown helps....
maybe im not the flavor of the month on some points and do tend to annoy some of the more fervent italiaphiles but i appreciate the effort taken in these responses.... and as always will reccomend both this forum and the magasine for anyone planning a move here as an excellent poinyt of reference and as has been proven a way to save around 6000 pounds....
thankyou

I am currently waiting for the 1st 2 quotes from UK removal companies to move us from east Midlands to Puglia in April ( about 6weeks in storage) ...as soon as I get them I will post them...but quite frankly, I'm very apprehensive as I have heard the cost is astronomical !!!!!
Can anyone who is already in Italy, post some advise, personal experience please.
Thanks
Lyn
