Thanks for the info, WiredEyes.
We have thought about SKY but we aren't allowed a big satellite dish in the Villaggio we live in & to stop every apartment having their own dish; we share one between four.
I'm sure there'll be packages available, just finding them easily would be nice!
We'll have to remember you if we need internet solutions as we're not too far away in Porto San Paolo, Olbia (SS)
Regards, s&m

not being very adept or knowledgable about satelite tv in general but having a sky italia subscription with a normal dish ...... we get bbc prime... and in all honesty if the bbc requires you to pay a fee for this of about e99 i wouldnt bother....they are in general old repeats or else non ending east enders...but its there so what the heck
you get most programmmes in english...providing i think you have a tv with stereo speakers you just select one channel for foreign languages and move on from there.....you get all the channels the same as uk sky...fox,disney and cinema...just select english everywhere
most people just get there whole package from the local tv shop.....they are all good at installing and sometimes providing you with cards that seem to work very well....
talk to an italian neighbour or two and you might very well find some very good deals are to be had at your local tv shop...especially on the cards
otherwise all the bigger hypemarkets sell the packages...but i would still reccomend the local dealer...

In some parts of Le Marche you can get Croatian TV - which is always subtitled - so if you're really desparate you can watch the likes of the Dukes of Hazard in English!

The basic subscription to Sky Italia is €20/month, for which you get BBC Prime, Sky News, BBC World and News 24 in English and lots of Italian channels. You also get a plethora of other channels with the original soundtrack on bought-in American programming; The West Wing, ER, Friends, Discovery Channel, etc.
If you like movies, you can buy them on a pay-per-view basis with the original soundtrack, or subscribe to older stuff with the cinema package for an extra €10/month.
You need a new Sky Italia NDS receiver and card, sold everywhere, an 80cm dish and a bloke with a head for heights to install it for you.
As many will probably tell you, you can get sky TV out here but you need a sky Digibox and subscription card. I bought my old receiver over from the UK and have the subscription registered to my parents home in the uk as sky subscriptions have to registered to UK addresses.
You will need a large dish (at least 80cm) and you will not get the full range of channels, definitely wont get any BBC channels unless you have a mega dish in Sardegna (I am in Cagliari BTW).
I get Sky one, sky news and some of the sky movie channels (1,2, 9 are the best but I can get them all depending on the time of day), Discovery channels, MTV, Living, Bravo, CNN and plenty of other not so popular channels like Uktv channels, Paramount comedy channels and FX tv.
There are companies out there that will provide the full package for you and register the card to a UK address (do a search in google) but you do pay extra for it, so if I were you try to get a sky card registered to family in the Uk and buy a Digibox from Ebay or something then get yourself a big dish and make sure you secure it well. I personally got a local satellite company to do the work but looking at it I probably could have done it myself.
All the best and if you need any more help drop me a line.
