64 Hotels in Urbino

Can anyone recommend a good, friendly, hotel in Urbino. Preferrably not a faceless chain or business-man's hotel but something that reflects the character of the place.

Any recommendations where to visit for a short stay would also be appreciated. My husband and I will be passing through in May.

Many thanks

Hi, unfortunately I don't know about hotels in that area.

About places to visit, well, Urbino simply takes half a day to be visited. The Palazzo Ducale and the historic centre are definitely worthwhile, whereas the university nightlife might be nice to be seen and enjoyed, at least on early night.

I strongly recommend to visit San Leo, beautiful fortress, 30 minutes driving from Urbino.

Other interesting places, but less nice than San Leo, are Gradara (which is famous to be the "lovers castle", from the legend of Paolo and Francesca, narrated by Dante Alighieri in Divina Commedia, the most important Italian poem), and San Marino, which is at least a different country, although there are no many interesting things to visit, unless you're interested in wild shopping! :-)

But you can laso take the car and drive through the Montefeltro area (west of Urbino), full of small towns and castles, and very very interesting for food.

Have fun!

Urbino has a selection of hotels but if you are looking for something with a bit of character...

1) Raffaello in Via S. Margerita. This is located in a quiet lane near Raffaello's birthplace.

2) San Giovanni in Via Barocci. This is an old palazzo.

If you need more information...try the local tourist office iat.urbino@regione.marche.it or have a look at the regione marche web site...www.regione.marche.it

Hi,
I've only recently come across a fantastic (and I believe pretty new) Italian hotel site. Its called www.hotelworld.it and claims to list 25,000 hotels in Italy. I've got a book which lists supposedly "all 32,032" hotels in Italy so this site is pretty comprehensive if it really does have 25,000 in its database.
I just did a search for Urbino and it came back with 168 hotels in 3 seconds with links to websites, phone numbers, addresses, number of stars, email addresses etc. I'm sure you'll find something through the site.
It's in Italian or in strange English, although it would pretty self explanatory even if it were written in Finnish as it is so simple. There are no images, or slow to load 'clever' features so it'll hopefully speed up your research.
