133 Anyone in the Langhe?

We are making another visit next week to the Langhe where we are looking for a rustico near Cortemilia.

We already live and work in Italy, but where we are is far from agricultural/rural so we are looking to get a bolt hole to restore in a much quiter place.

Does anyone from the forum already own there or is anyone able to offer any insights in to the area? We have visited several times now and have really enjoyed the peace and quiet. Buying experiences and perspectives welcomed!

I would love to hear more about Cortemilia also, as we have a chance of purchasing a property there at a good price, and are planning to take a trip there soon to view the area and the property (and others).
What did you make of Cortemilia, regarding the location, distances, facilities/conveniences, the roads & signs...etc..
would love your visiting experience on the area if you could.
We have to move to Southern Piedmont somewhere, so finding out about the many areas is where we are at currently.

We have now, in fact, put in an offer on a property near Cortemelia. Hope it is not the same one you were interested in.........!

Cortemelia is either the back of beyond, or a rural paradise, depending on your point of view. Compared to Dogliani and the slightly more sophisticated vinyard villages like Monforte etc its much more 'tractor chic'. It reminds us of the westcountry of England 20 years ago before the yuppies arrived. We happen to really like that sort of thing! Advantages include cheaper property of course.....

The area is very popular with the swiss and germans and the brits are only just starting to move in. We found the local agents really useful and not at all pushy. Make sure you get them to check the landslide records at the commune as a few areas around there are possibly at risk, but the seismic regulations seem less oppressive than they are in other areas.

The Italians we know see the the Langhe as similar to the Tuscany of 30 years ago. The region has a fantastic reputation for food and wine too.
