165 schools in Marche

is there anyone who has english children and who has moved to italy and can tell me what to expect. my children are 11 and 16 and we haope to relocate in the summer.

i would like to here the good and bad and how easy it was to settle in.

we are moving to Marche but any general info would be a great help.

Felicity, where are you going. We are about to do the same next though my children are only 3 and 7. The school won't let me daughter start until September so it might be worth checking what the situation is there. I understand be Italian is not her first language she qualifies for a teacher to help her intergrate.

hopefully to montepone but not gone through yet! The children and i will stay here until july anyway so that my eldest can finish his GCSE's and my youngest can finish primary school.

I have also been told that they get help with Italian but I am concerned about them fitting in. I did considering an international school for the older one but he wants to make freinds with local kids his age so that would make it more difficult.

As i am from a large he can always come back to the uk to finish his education and stay with family if necessary but he wants to try Italy first!

I dont think your two will have any trouble. I was a childminder for 8 years and children are much better at adapting than we are. the little one will be speaking Italian within a few months (once he/she starts nursery) and the older one will be helping you with your Italian before you know it!

What a coincidence. I was a childminder for many years and work in nurseries now.

I'm not at all worried about mine because we have been visiting Italy for most of my life and therefore have friends in the area. My daughter has already visited the school, and has a friend in the class she will be joining. When we go next with her we will introduce her to more or her new classmates and have the summer to enjoy and intergrate before real life starts! I know this is a process that will take years rather than a few months though.

I can understand your concerns though. At least you have a backup for the oldest. I have always found everybody to be very friendly and helpful in the village we will be living in and have made friends. I agree the younger you are the easier it is.

Interesting to hear of your proposed move. We too are planning to move to Marche next year, with our children 4,5 and 8. We haven't heard before that children who do not speak Italian qualify for a teacher to help them integrate. Is this correct? Do you know where we could find further details on this?

This is what the school has told us. Its funding by the commune so the schoolhas to apply on our behalf.
