361 holidays

can anyone advise what the average annual holiday entitlement is in Italy?

Lambretta.....treat every day in Italy as a holiday - I would! I was supposed to be going to Torino to work for about 12 weeks, but circumstances have arisen to prevent that from happening - che peccato! My (admittedly limited) experience of working in Italy a few years ago was that everythin was fairly relaxed, and at the same time everything was chaotic! But, having said that, it was a wonderful experience.... particularly the lunch breaks.....we were the "mad dogs and Englishmen" (even though I am not English! :-) ) because we went for walks at lunchtime....very peaceful, because no sane Italian would venture out into the heat of the sun!

So enjoy your working time there! How I envy you.

Well you can certainly assume that all of August is a holiday

It used to be 5 weeks in the company that I worked for. Don't know if that's a legal requirement or just the company's own policy though.

Hi

I work for a very small Italian company and my holiday entitlement is:

128.5 hours holidays
45 hours "permesso" ie to use to go to dentist, doctors etc

I work a 6 hour day so this works out at a grand total of approx 29 days.

+ bank holidays - I count 11 this year but stand to be corrected.

This probably makes my holiday entitlement a bit better than the UK but my salary is VERY low

I also wouldn't count on it being extremely relaxed, happy go lucky or indeed chaotic. They are running businesses the same as in the UK and expect the same standards from their staff. My employers are very nice but everything is very precise with all my hours counted, contracts in place etc.
I'm afraid to say that August also isn't just a whole month off - my office will probably be closed for 2-3 weeks. If I took the whole month off I'd have very little holiday entitlement left for the rest of the year!

Thanks for that, quite insightful.
Yes holiday are [B]significantly[/B] better than the UK, although as you say, lower salary.

I'd fully anticipate having to work just as hard as here, probably harder actually as I'm not a native, so thats not really a worry. I guess it's all about trying to find some balance.
