390 Must you have a Hi Vis vest in you car

As the title says,
Spending two weeks in the garfagnana area from next week and have been advised that this is a new requirement in some EU countries. Will be hiring a car and would expect them (avis) to supply any essentials like this.
The advice i received was that a hi vis vest was required for each passanger in the vehicle, (i'm sure my fourteen month old daughter would look sweet in one :) ). Only info i can find in the net is that you need to wear one if you stop on the highway at night and leave the car.
Any idea's

We hired a car a couple of weeks ago and there was one vest in the glove box.
Suspect one is all that is necessary to comply with the rule.

I also read somewhere that you need to keep you lights on all the time when you are on a motorway - but can't remember where I saw that

Yes you need the vests and rental cars should have them in them. Only one is required per car and it must be kept in the car not the trunk as you are supposed to put them on before geting out of the car.

As for lights, they are required on at all times except in city centers. Easier just to remember to keep them on all the time.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies.

I had read about the headlights, but i assumed that rental companies would have had their cars modified to have the lights switched on with the ignition.

Does this also affect new cars, are they now built with the headlights on permanently, like volvo's. Just curious 'cause i have a fairly new multipla, and was wondering if they were built to different specs.

I shipped my car from the US, which uses driving lights as standard. Any good auto-electrician can adapt a european car to run with driving lamps
