411 planning permission and geometras

Hi,
We have employed a Geometra / architects firm to draw plans for an extension which have been submitted to the relevant authorities for permission.
My query is - is it a legal requirement to employ a Geometra to oversee / project manage the building work, once planning permission has been approved or is it OK just to let the builder build. We could do with some clarity on what the requirements are once planning permission has been gained.
All advice welcomed and appreciated

This issue is covered by the Decreto del Presidente della Repubblica 6 June 2001, no. 380 Testo Unico delle Disposizioni Legislative e Regolamentari in Materia Edilizia.

It is a legal requirement that your architect or geometra is the nominated direttore dei lavori for your building project. This role is an important one as it covers a number of facets from site safety to ensuring that construction work complies with all relevant building regulations etc.

The role and responsibilities of the direttore dei lavori are normally included in the building contract.
