428 Cam Belt

After many a uneventful Ryanair flight down to Ancona i decided to drive down and stay for nearly 4 weeks at our house just outside Amandola . Everything was going well untill just south of Bologna the dreaded sound of valves hitting pistons stopped our progress . Our UK recovery company would not take the car back to Cheshire saying that the recovery cost was greater by a large sum than the value of the car , eventually they agread to take it to Amandola where i took the head off (in the field/garden in front of our house) 16 bent valves!!!! . To cut a long story short i am having a relacement engine fitted by the local Opel dealer , then will fly down and drive back . I have faxed and emailed the garage but am not sure if my messages are getting through , is there anybody who would be prepared to go to the garage for me and find out if the new engine has been fitted and the car is running . I will not be going down for a few weeks but need to know if i can book a flight .Thankyou in anticipation Geoff .

I know this may sound daft, but why not give them a call, if speaking Italian is a problem, work out what you need to say and have a go. At worst all could happen is that the phone will go dead.

hello Geoff,i popped into the garage this morning the car was up on the thing Mario and Daniele told me that they should finish everything for this evening,tomorrow morning they'll give it a trial run so for tomorrow Thursday 19/05 everything should be ok,They asked me to apologise they had not replied to your faxes because,they said, nothing to say, but they told me that between today/tomorrow they'll fax you so i'd go ahead and book your flight..call this evening the same if you want-cheers.
