433 Bella Italia!

Ciao tutti!

I've been reading through the forum for a couple of days now, so I decided I had to join up too.

Having visited northern Italy 3 times, the latest a visit to Venezia in February, I think it's fantastic. I started taking evening classes 15 years ago for the first time and am currently catching up on my Italian language skills - after a long break during which I moved from Germany to the UK (Scotland & now Wales). After finishing an improvers course last month, I'm now stuck as to where to go next to talk to others....

My partner and I love the Italian way of life and consider buying a small property either in the Veneto or Lombardia in the next year or so. Working at a UK university at the moment, we're thinking of taking TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) training and try and get jobs at local universities or language schools in northern Italy. He is also involved in e-learning which might be useful. I'd be grateful for any hints in the right direction... :)

I'm not too worried moving to a different country again, as I've done it all before. In fact, I'll be looking forward to it. However, taking two spoilt cats (one noisy, one nervous) by car across the alps is not something I'll look forward to (but still better than by plane I guess) ... ;)

A piu tardi,

Stephanie

Hi Stephanie
I agree about Northern Italy, absolutely beautiful and fascinating area. If you are considering the TEFL course, go for one of the Trinity courses, these will get you positions in the good language schools in Italy. I am considering the same at the moment and am about to apply with the Windsor Group for a course. The courses are a month long and I believe very intense, however i am also led to believe that they are worthwhile.

Good luck and maybe keep in touch.

Zillah

Hi Zillah,

Many thanks for getting back to me. I've so far checked out several institutions for details and have come across Trinity. My problem is that I will need to do the course online as I work full time. Until a couple of years ago, I taught German conversations for 2 years so I've gained some adult education teaching practice - and it was lots of fun!!

Are you planning to move to Italy soon?

Best,
Stephanie

 I have just joined today although I have been buying the magazine for several months. I have been to Italy several times, Jeselo, visiting Verona, Venice, Padova. Fell totally in love with the area. I am now doing quite a bit of research as I would love to move and work in that area (Eugean Hills - brilliant article in your magazine). Just reading some of the letters today has been a great source of information. I would like to teach and was wondering about the TEFL course but this was answered in a reply to Stephanie's requests also I have a little cat so it's good to know I can get information regarding moving myself, pet, car etc, etc.

I will be keeping in touch and hopefully my questions won't be too silly.
