How strict are language schools in Italy? Is it oossible to get work if you have a teaching qualification but no degree? Any thoughts?

It all depends on the school and its location. Some schools such as the British Council are very very strict. On the other hand once you get away from Rome, Milan, Venice, Florence etc schools become much less fussy. The ability to speak English and dress yourself semi-smartly is often enough to get yourself a job.
If you have a teaching qualification and no degree I'm sure you'll find yourself a position without too much difficulty. I for one was never asked about my degree - only about my TEFL qualification.

I've been looking into this issue as I intend to take TEFL training on distance learning (with 2 years' experience in teaching German to adults in Scotland).

Not sure if you've come across www.tefl.com for details. They offer a subscription to job updates and I regularly get emails with new jobs in Italy (mostly starting August/September but also some summer camp jobs). Some employers (prestigious language schools, etc) insist on degree and TEFL certificate/diploma, but others don't mention degrees at all.

If you have previous teaching experience, that should count towards it all, I guess.

Good luck.

Neil,

Where were you teaching? What are your experiences?

We've got no definite plans to move as yet but are considering it for the near future.

Cheers,
Stephanie :)
