603 fabric

This may seam like a very silly question to some but any recommendations where to sourse fabric in Puglia.

We will be starting work on our villa in the next few months and I am interested in finding fabric. At home in the UK I have a very nice business making fancy curtains and soft furnishings etc and want to make my own for the villa and give the windows the wow factor. I know shutters are a must but I want to dress the windows too. We are hoping to re-locate over the next 18 months and althougth I didn't intend to work myself I would like to find out about the Italian way of styling their hopes etc.

Any idea's

I don't know of any fabric shops but there was a Grand Design programme last year for some people renovating in Puglia. I remember the lady on the programme making her own curtains. The run art and cooking courses now and might be good contacts anyway if you are re-locating. Their website is:

Having made some curtains myself here in Italy I know it is possible to track down most of the things you need. Fabric suitable for curtains is available but it is not as easy to find as in UK. Italians tend to use thin ready made 'muslin' like curtains or have heavier curtains made to measure by a specialist shop who also supply the material. To buy just material, I found the best places were KA International, I think there is one in Bari, they have a good range but can be expensive, however their sale prices were good value. Some branches of Leroy Merlin, again I think there is one in Bari, also sell a good range, but perhaps the quality is not quite as good and there is always IKEA. When Italian friends saw our lined curtains they were completely confused with the concept of linings, evidently lined curtains are not the norm. The tapes and hooks etc you can easily get from haberdashers but if you want any fancy tapes, I was only using the simple type, you may need to get it in UK. The other place to look is at markets, often a fabric shop will set up stall on market day and offer a small sample of their stock.
