622 Autostrada driving - motel accomodation

Does motorway accommodation exist in Italy? We have searched without success for the equivalent of Travel Inn etc. Particularly A14/A1 between Milan and Ancona.

Any advice appreciated.

no,you won't find any equivalents travel inn..post house etc there are in fact not many hotel chains in this country....
you best is exit from the motorway and you'll find hotels all the way down from Milano , personally i'd tend to exit shortly after Bologna (more or less half way) there are plenty of places along the Via Emilia (the state road which more or less parrallels with the motorway.

I can recommend this place, we use it when the A14 turns into a car park:

HOTEL / RISTORANTE ALLA LANTERNA ***
Via Strada Nazionale Adriatica Sud, n. 78
61032 Metaurilia di Fano (PU)
Tel: +39 0721884748
(Ristorante consigliato Mare in Italy - recommended for the quality of its fish dishes)

Huge rooms with ensuite bathrooms, very clean and a regular winner of the best brodo award. The restaurant is really good and regularly features in guides. Prices are very reasonable, lots of parking.

You will see signs at the side of the Autostrada, we stayed overnight near Modena (my heart dictated the stop ;) ) I am sure it was a Holiday Inn, just off the A14.

yes you will find motel accomodation along the autostarda... they come up about every 100 km or so .... not a chain as such ... but all the larger autogrills have them... i would however take the advice offered of pulling off the motorway ... there are chains here some of the french ones have out of town places.... best western has some... however the problem is always finding them.....

we once booked a trip down and got the ferries cheaper if we booked the hotels... in france it was easy to find ... but if you book an out of town.... usualy commercial area one in any italian city be prepared for a confusing time..... the sad thing was whilst searching for the one we had booked and apyed for we passed several hundred any of which would have done us fine....

my advice therefore ... unless the trip planned is at peak... times .. is to drive until five .. pull off the motorway whilst still light and book into the first decent hotel you see... you ll get a chance of a relaxing shower...good meal and be ready for the next day

Between Piacenza nord and Piacenza sud there is a Motel, just off the Autostrada (visible before the exit).

I stayed there one night and the accommodation was very nice… there was also a Jacuzzi included in the price ;)

We too came off at Modena which is a fantastic town you must go to.

There' a motel on the left on the road into Modena just after the junction. We had a big family room here for £40 in 2001.The Pizza place on the other side of the road is good value too.
