609 Beds

In the UK we have doubles (135cm wide) and Kings (150). But my experience of Italian beds is they are either narrower than a double or wider than a king - neither of which suits us.

Anybody know the exact sizes and whether there's something more like a standard UK double?

Yes Italian beds do seem to be different sizes to Enlish ones - However, IKEA in Italy do do English sizes as well as the 'normal' Italian ones. [We neded an English double to fit in our smaller bedroom, so we did some looking around - If I remember correctly, an English double is called a "one and a half" bed in some places]

If you do go to Ikea, they also do some great 'foam' mattresses that are easy to transport by car along with the 'flatpack' bed

A matrimoniale considered normal as a double bed is 190cm by 200cm
Sorry not sure about measurments for the 1 1/2 size that is available here.

We are hoping to buy in Italy soon and have been looking at trullis, they have wooden boards across an alcove for the bed. Therefore all we need to do is buy a mattress but, where in Puglia is a good place to start looking as shops in themselves seem hard to find too - not like the English shopping centers!:)

Emmezeta at Fasano sell mattresses separately. They also sell a variety of furniture and household goods of varying qualities. However, a layer of straw may be better than their cheaper mattresses and good quality ones did appear rather expensive (360 euros for a double). It is very easy to find as its signposted off the dual carriageway. They are closed, however, between about 1.30 and 3.30 (which is when we were there!), but there is a supermarket on site which seems to stay open throughout the day.

Our agent has said that he can order us beds via the web from a company based in Northern Italy: www.eminflex.it. He says they are good quality.

If you find any other sources - please let us know as we will need beds when we finally purchase (currently trying to complete on a trulli).

Fasano is nice and close thanks for the info and we will have to remember the lunch time shut down! Also thanks for the other information

Has anyone found a place to buy very good beds (like the Duxiana from Scandinavia)? When we are ready to buy beds for our house we will need to find the highest quality/comfort that we can (one of our family members has a very bad back). Thanks for any suggestions.

Just outside the main Piazza in Fermo, down the hill where the Saturday market is located, there is a specialist bed shop, very adjustable, they look superb, sorry I can't be more helpful with name etc., but, drop down some Saturday, you'll find it easily enough, there is also a specialist store at the junction of the coast road and the Superstrada to Tolentino in Civitanova Marche, at the lights next to Blockbuster.

Does anyone know about wooden beds? What type of wood is good to buy for a bed, pine, oak...? Is pine good type of wood for a bed frame?
Help any advise anyone would be appreciated!
Thanks
