Forgive me for being a bit dim but...............not long a member of the chat room here I've being trying hard not to ask this question but its been bugging me (fearing an obvious answer leaving me looking stupid) but what exactly are the words under each contributors name on all of the theads eg
Senator or Equestrain?

They tell you roughly how many posts the person has made to the forum. You start as a Plebian move on to being an equestrian and on to senator. It's a mild joke, based on the terms used for position in Roman society.

Probably dead obvious to those of us wot did Latin, but not to others.

so thats where that awful derogatory term used back in school days "pleb" came from - in which case I'm afraid thats the only latin used in the playground of our local comprehensive!

I object to being a pleb - it brings back all sorts of horrid school memories - How many posts do I have to scribe before I am promoted to the dizzy heights of the Gymkhana ?

I believe its about 14 posts. There is an explanation somewhere on this site, I have seen it but can't find it now.

There is no stigma attached to being a pleb, Shiv, neither does being promoted carry any merit. Its just a reward for verbosity.
Being a gasbag of long-standing, I inadvertantly found myself promoted to the rank of Equestrian. I'd willingly dismount and join the Plebs again, were it not for the fact that I'd have to walk around in the stuff that Equestrians like me, and our betters, have left behind on the streets for you lot to step in!

Thus is the lot of the great unwashed!
However, should we all keep up this thread for a while longer we can all be promoted and feel mighty smug!! :D
