Dog Sitting
Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Wed, 08/03/2005 - 04:42In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Hi there - just a thought, I am a qualified dog groomer and worked in both boarding and quarantine kennels in the UK. We also have a dog that is unhappy being left at home (we think Battersea may have disturbed her somewhat - mind you we have always had rescue dogs), but if you ever wanted us to look after your dog then we would be happy to, although we do live in Umbria - but if we can be of any help please let us know.
Thanks

Thanks to both of you, greatly appreciated.
Bit worrying tho' that no boarding kennels seem to exist, i know there is the Siblini one which pops up but that is the only one I've come across.
Anyone want a business opportunity in Puglia ??????...think you would make a fortune...I'm too long in the tooth now to start a business...anyway I'm enjoying myself too much ......just want to pop here an there occasionally and know my pooch is safe and happy. AAAAAHHHH the english and their pets !!!!

If you're passing sling it over my fence, I probably wouldn't notice it for a week or two as long as it played with the 7 (I am quite mad) I have now, mind you, you would probably find it to be a bit more errrm "assertive" when you returned for it, or err, thinner, but much fitter :)
George ....you're on !!!!!

Well george, I can always rely on you to have me in hysterics !!!!!
BUT, I may well take you up on the offer...where are you ...no hiding now !!!!
And have you really got 7 dogs...or am I just gullible !!!!( can't spell either !).
Just the thought of chucking her out of the car window as we drive by will make me smile for days ...little thing please little minds !!!!
In England she was the most sociable dog on our 'romps' but sadly the Italian dogs just don't want to play ...more like eat her ...so she is a bit wary now....we thought she had 'pulled' when a dog kept appearing at our gate but no amount of coaxing would get it in to play and now it's stopped coming...guess she has been chucked !!!!!
If you really have got 7 dogs, please tell us how that came about..I'm sure it is a really funny story.

We are hopefully moving to the Campania area sometime this year, or early next year. We hope to obtain a house with land where we can build a block of 10 (air conditioned) kennels. We only have two dogs (Chow Chows) at the moment but we are hoping to breed them both in Italy hence the 10 kennels. We will take in dogs for boarding and will have the kennels on CCTV and a live internet connection all being well. This is for security purposes and for the true fanatical British dog lover. We are hoping to be no more than one hours drive from Naples airport. So hey....
Leave your dog/s, go to Blighty, log-on and view their happy wagging tails and faces
The dogs...

TMA & IWTBII, sorry , had missed your posts till sonofjoe posted with his plans, briefly, came over from England with a Lurcher, and a Bedlington Terrier puppy, and, a kind of pre order for a Whippet from a breeder, strangely enough in Campania. Unfortunately, the beautiful Bedlington was run over and killed shortly after we arrived here (don't ask...) we made the classic mistake of visiting a dog rescue centre here, absolutely heart wrenching and came away with 2 bitches, both apparently speyed...Karen fell inlove with a tiny little pup that was the spitting image of our lurcher, in a pet shop, it was near christmas...2-1+3=4...In Feb, breeder informs me mating has taken place and my whippet could be on way soon. (all dogs I have are female BTW) we now have 2 living in the house, 2 living in cantina, all mixing in fenced garden. My wife died in March, and in May, I wasn't taking much notice as you can appreciate one of the rescue dogs produced babies and reared two, I picked up the whippet too equalling 7...Happy Daze
Oh well !!!

Thanks George, sure got your hands full! We had a whippet when I was a kid, he was always getting the local lady dogs into trouble! Also went to a rescue centre quite a few years back and took home the skinniest, flea ridden dog in the place, you were meant to pay a donation but they let us off cos he was such a mess. He had a good life with us but something must have happened in his passed, as he hated men!
George, with a terrier, lurcher and a whippet, do you wear a cloth cap?
oh, just had an idea, the earning an income in Italy problem. Now that the kennel is full, we could open another one! :D
Just what I was thinking !!

AHA !!!! Think we've solved both your problem and ours...as far as I can see...no boarding kennels here...I reckon you could make a decent living out of that ...and I can dump Cassie on you while we go galivanting round Italy !!!! There seem to be loads of Brits heading this way ....and a decent kennel would be ideal.....have I won you over yet ??? :D

Ohhh dear, and, errrm, I was born in Newcastle as well, sooooo, will buy a cap as soon as possible. Laying off the racing pigeons though, the neighbours would only shoot the beggars... ;)
Does anyone know if there are any Boarding Kennels in Puglia.
Given the Italian attitude to dogs , our close neighbours are really afraid of them (I have never come across this sort of reaction in the UK) and the others who have dogs, keep them all outside, and in most cases have to tie them up if we visit as they are quite vicious and used as guard dogs, not pets.
Now our spoilt pooch, is only medium size, as soft as anything and quite obediant ( except when we are going out and leaving her in the house - too hot in car- !!! ) and basically, she is a member of the family.... someone gave us a kennel for her when we arrived ( very kind ) and she took one look at it and you could see she was thinking ' if you think I'm going in that, you've got another think coming !!!'
I had hoped we would be able to do a reciprical dog sit with one of the neighbours , but that obviosly isn't going to happen.
Next year , we want to have some short breaks away,Rome, Pompeii , Florence, Venice etc. and of course if we have to pop back to UK in a hurry, we are a bit stuck as at the moment one of us has to stay behind.
Any advise, suggestion gratefully received.
As an after thought, we now have phone connected...do you get phone books and Yellow page type things like the Uk..we haven't had anything, and this would have helped.
Boarding Kennels in Puglia - Take the road out of Ostuni towards Cisternino, keep going until you come to Contrada Badessa (approx 5/6 km from Ostuni), about 1 km past cda badessa sign there is a crossroads and on the left there is a single storey white building with a large mural of a dog (dalmation I think) painted on the wall.
These are kennels and they are usually fairly busy judging from the noise coming from them at times.
If you miss them and end up in a village called Cassalini you have gone 3 km too far.
No idea of prices or standard of service but could be what you are looking for.
will check it out

if your dates for trips coincide with when we are out there I will gladly welcome her at our house (outside Ostuni) . I do tend to spoil dogs though...
