1386 Buying Electrical Equipment (North of Lucca)

Hello all,

I am looking to buy property just north of Lucca, and am flying out next week to view three properties. I have been searching the web for electrical retailers, and I have only found a few, all several hours away. Does anyone know of any good electrical retailers / cooking range suppliers near Lucca, or how good the delivery services are if you buy from someone like ePlaza, ePrice, elektroBuy etc.

For Example,
Do they deliver on Saturdays? :o
Do they book 1/2 day slots or could they arrive anytime on the day?

I was cosidering buying in the UK and hiring a big van & driving it all over myself, but I am still not convinsed it is worth the money or the effort unless anyone can suggest otherwise....?

P.S. It's getting cold in the UK now!!!

It's not getting cold in the UK - it's getting cold in Leeds! (and I'm originally from Castleford so I know! ).

I admire your sense of optimism - not been on your viewing trip yet and already looking at electrical equipment. We went on our first viewing visit in October 2004 and sign in two weeks time for a property we saw on our 4th viewing visit! I remember reading somewhere that you should never buy on your first visit and I can see there is something in that. It is very easy to get carried away and go for something without having seen a good range of what is available.

Anyway, good luck with your visit - hope you find just what you are looking for.

P.S. Is it me or is there an increasing number of people from Yorkshire/of Yorkshire origin using this forum;) .

Fair point about buying on the first visit. I will bear that in mind! I am on a busy scedule with several agents - so as you say, let's see what's out there! :)

I have been in the area many times as my friend lived in Lerici (about an hour away) for around 4 years with his work. He would go skiing in the morning, then water-skiing in the evening - now he is back inthe UK working his fingers to the bone wishing he was back in Italy!

I surpose of the mail was twofold:

1) See who knows anything about electrical suppliers in the direct area (my friend was in rented property and anything he needed was done as part of his re-deployment package and had to do nothing himself!)
2) Ensure all my fianacial figures are correct. I don't want to over-stretch when I do buy - something which I believe is very easy to do!

I think a lot of people in Yorkshire are considering buying in Italy - I know of three at work alone!

Good luck with your Property Brendangfc!

P.S. The sun has now come out in Leeds and it's 20C now !!! I might get the hammock out and pour a Pimms & Lemmonade at this rate! :D

Rafey,

Good luck with your viewings. We too are going out in a couple of weeks to view properties in Puglia ... and believe it or not, my partner has already contacted removal people to check out prices of relocating!

Exciting isn't it. We just can't wait to get there :-)

Hello Rafey

You couldn't have picked a better area to live in!

I don't know anything about the online sites you mention. But I do have other suggestions based on local knowledge.

We live north of Lucca (Bagni di Lucca) and we bought a fridge/freezer, oven and washing machine from Gigliotti Audio Video in Fornoli. It's at 56, VIA PAPA GIOVANNI XXIII, tel: 00 39 0583 87222. We went in and ordered directly but there's also a website at http://www.gigliottishop.it/.

They were good and efficient - delivered what they said they would when they said they would. And I think you could tell them more or less when you wanted it delivered.

Because we bought quite a few things together, we got a good discount. The drawback is that if you're fussy about what you want or if you're very brand-loyal, you might find their range a bit limited.

Another possibility involves the big hypermarkets. There's a Carrefour in Lucca (www.carrefour.it); there's also a smaller Esselunga, both in Lucca and on the SS12 heading north between Lucca and Bagni di Lucca (www.esselunga.it). I don't think you can order direct off either of their websites, but they would deliver for a charge.

Whereabouts north of Lucca are you looking?

Hi Mike,

I am looking at a house in Trassilico. I know there is a restaurant in the small village, and that it is on a very large hill.

I can give you more details in a PM as having done the work finding it, I don't want to publish the details and get gazzumped!

The views are meant to be fantastic, and you can't park outside the house - you have to walk around 100yrds up a steep hill to get to the door, but that is fine for me as I want to do walking, mountain biking while I am out there!

I love your property - When you look at the outside, then the inside, it's amazing how much light you have in the rooms!

Thank you very much for your help. I will send you some more details of the house if you don't mind and see what you think.

Thanks once again Mike!

:)

We're not too close to your area (40 miles, but about 2 hrs drive!) but would recommend that you look to shop locally in one of the small towns there. We tried this & found that although the prices were at a bit of a premium, the shop owner was more than happy to deliver (often there & then!) and was happy to put up with our pidgen Italian and was most helpful later down the line when we needed spares/ replacement parts etc...

The other option is to try renting an estate car & lugging it yourself; this was another of our (ahem) 'good ideas'. This did require a fair bit of lugging when we got to the other end though as it was just me & the missus, rather than a chappie who was used to carrying white good around!

Good luck!

Thanks guys for your help.

I think I will see what is about in the stores you recommend when I am out there next week!

Regards :)

If you get a chance try to wander round the commercial zones, look for ElectrO Idea, they have really hairy prices and delivery pretty good, don't know if there'r any in your area though... Good luck with the hunt... :)

If you want more choice then you can look at Ipercoop or Euronics in Montecatini just off the A11 or Mercatone Uno (Exit Altopascio). Buying a few together will reduce delivery costs.
