1376 Hello from Almulino

I have just joined this forum and hope to enjoy some mutually interesting contact with others who are in the process of building / renovating property in Northern Tuscany / Lunigiana. I have purchased some land ( With planning permission ) and would appreciate learning about how to find and make contact with Architects / Geometras ( I believe this is different from an architect but am not sure how ) and potential builders for this project. I bought through a reputable agency but feel that they will be expensive to use for the build. Is there a " directory " of contacts in this field ?? Can anyone recommend a good English speaking builder ?? / Geometra ??? I plan to be in the area at the beginning of October.

Help !!!

I have heard one of the best ways to select builders is to go to the local Builders Merchant Yard, and ask the Manager who they would recommend. Sometimes they will even arrange a meeting with them for you, as the Builder's merchant see's you as "the customer".

I should say that this does not come from my own experience, as I am still looking, but from a book.

Two books I have are:

"The complete Guide to buying a Property in Italy", Barbara McMahon, ISBN 0749441518
"Buying a House in Italy", Gordon Neale, ISBN:185458300-X

I am sure more people will better ideas, from their own experience, but this is a start for you.

Good Luck.
:)

Thanks for the suggestion... Seems like a good idea and I will try when I am there soon. Appreciate the book references.

I have already had many good ideas from this magazine forum and appreciate you taking the time to respond.... :) :)

The books cost £20 in total, even if you get one good piece of advise from them, I think they are worth it!
