1409 Heathrow to Gatwick

How long is the drive from London Heatrow to Gatwick? I noticed that the Ryan Air flights to Bari or Pescara leave from Gatwick only. I normaly fly into Rome and then drive to Gargano (3.5 hr drive). This make for a long travel day.

It's not a fun journey.

You could take the train (you'll end up going via London though) on both the http://www.heathrowexpress.com/ & http://www.gatwickexpress.com/

.....or on the motorway (the M25) which is not the most pleasant place at any time! In terms of distance, it should only take an hours or 90 minutes, but if you consider that the M25 is the main road around London, it's a gamble!

I would give it 2 - 2 1/2 hours at least, depending on time of day. I've never travelled between the two airports without getting into any serious traffic jams... unless it's very early in the morning or late at night!

Have checked Ryanair web site Pescara and Bari are both served from London Stansted not Gatwick in their present timetables but the distance and travel times would be about the same by train maybe a little shorter by road depending on traffic.

Don't Ryan Air flights to Bari and Pescara only go from Stansted not Gatwick:confused: ? And if you want to get from Heathrow to Stansted..now there is a journey!

I'm sure its Stansted and not Gatwick too - I did the Pescara flight last Sunday and we definately ended up at Stansted. Stansted to Heathrow is a much bigger problem than H'row - Gatwick. I'm not sure theres even a bus - you would have to take the heatrow express to Paddington, then the tube to Liverpool st then the stansted express - it'd prob cost £35 by public transport..

Horrible journey.

There is a great coach service between Stansted and Heathrow. I used to use it all the time.

It takes about 1hr 15 mins outside rush hour and 1hr 40 in rush hour. The coach station is under Stansted so not too far to walk and it's also very near to terminal 3 at Heathrow. The big advantage is no changing trains / stairs / escalators etc.

Not sure what the prices are now but it was about £23 rtn when I last used it which is much cheaper than the Stansted express and tube (which is the other public transport option).

Wll that sucks.. I double checked and you are right. Ryan Air flies out of Stanstead for Bari and Pescara. I was hoping to be able to use the low cost carriers out of Montreal but they fly to Gatwick not Stanstead.. I guess I'm stuck paying the big dollars and fly into Rome.

Thanks for the info.
