I tried to download it too but couldn't get it to work. I have used in the past http://maps.google.com click onto satelite then navigate around the world. You can go anywhere in the world without downloading programes etc (ok for us with steam computers)
problems for me too !
Hi All,
I am not sure how many of you know about this, but you can download free software (Google Earth) that not only allows you so see your homes / landscape anywhere in the world. You can then rotate, show roads etc.
for Example, I had a look at Lucca. You can see the walls of Lucca, and zoom in and rotate to see cars at street level. Some areas have more detail than others.
Here is a link to download the free software. This is unlike anything you have ever seen before!

Hope you all have some fun with this, as it shows how beautiful Italy really is!

We are thinking about using this program at work, cmmercial Real Estate. Google bought it from another company, shoot can't remember the name. A lot better now that Google owns it. The preview we had used about 3/4 weeks ago - you could zoom right into the building or the street you wanted. It was pretty clear too. Still not sure if we will use this or not
It is a cool view of the earth!!!

Hi Peggy,
My recommendation would be to check the maps in the area you would use it. Some of the digital maps are quiteold, and therefore the quality is lacking. Since the commercial system uses the same database for it's images, ulness you need the printing quality, I would stick with the free one and save yourself $400!
Here are maps of the current Hi-Res photos: http://earth.google.com/coverage/europe_lg.jpg
Hope this helps!
Strangely, the best resolution I have seen on Google earth is The Google campus in America
