Hi, Im looking at buying a property in northern tuscany (fivizzano/bagnone) and was wondering how i could get hold of a trustworthy property surveyor, who can give me an idea of any problems the house might have ie subsidence, rewiring etc (also info on likely cost etc would be good) and at what stage of the purchase his advice should be saught.
Thanks in advance, Will
Will...
I know of a good Geometra through an agency I work with in Versilia. If you would like his contact details let me know.

I've decided to let the solicitor handle the geometra now, but cheers anyway : )

your own geometra is normally the person to talk to for advice. In Italy we don't do surveys, it's legal to buy as you see, you find any problems afterwards as you go along (damp, crack...)! we wanted to do one for the first property we saw because of a large crack in the canteen and the only advice from the agency was to get an expert (for us to pay) but he couldn't give use any warranty on the problem so we decided not to go ahead with it.

Will,
Have a look at the below site to get a taste of what to expect from the inspections/surveys. Don't accept a costly one-pager that tells you what you already know. Make your requirements clear up front.
Good Luck!
