There is a great kids song on the radio at the moment about a Crocodillo....not exactly a classic but makes me laugh everytime I hear it...great for practising rolling your 'R's as well !!!!!
Anyone know what it is called please ...would love to get it for when 'littlies' visit. :)
My 'classic ' favorites are still the old chestnuts 'Santa Lucia' and 'O Sole Mio'...althought the Cornetto advert rather spoiled the latter...still brings goosebumps tho' when sung beautifully.

I guess the song you're talking about is "I due leocorni". And it goes something like this
Ci son due coccodrilli
ed un orango tango,
due piccoli serpenti
e un'aquila reale,
il gatto, il topo, l'elefante:
non manca più nessuno;
non manca più nessuno;
solo non si vedono i due leocorni.
E mentre salivano gli animali
Noè vide nel cielo un grosso nuvolone
e goccia dopo goccia a piover cominciò:
"Non posso più aspettare l'arca chiuderò."
Ci son due coccodrilli
ed un orango tango,
due piccoli serpenti
e un'aquila reale,
il gatto, il topo, l'elefante:
non manca più nessuno;
non manca più nessuno;
solo non si vedono i due leocorni.
You can visit www.filastrocche.it and find some jolly good songs for kids there, including lyrics and music you can sing to. It's probably the best way to teach Italian to young kids.

Volare, oh oh, e contare, oh oh oh oh
I've had that bloomin' song going round and round in my head since reading your post this morning. Either humming or singing it all the way to Gibraltar and back.
It's driven my partner crazy ... even he's singing it now ;- )

Thats amazing, my kids loved this song when we were on holiday in Caorle near Venice a few years ago. We heard it everywhere. So, it's not a new song.
I can't for the life of me, however, remember the tune. :( Let me know if you find it. Thanks

perhaps this one:
Bau Bau!
E il gatto? Miao!
L'asinello? Hi! Ho!
La mucca? Muu!
La rana? Cra cra!
La pecora? Beee!
E il coccodrillo? E il coccodrillo? Boh!
Il coccodrillo come fa,
non c'è nessuno che lo sa.
Si dice mangi troppo,
Non metta mai il cappotto,
Che con i denti punga,
che molto spesso pianga,
pero' quando è tranquillo come fa sto coccodrillo....
Il coccodrillo come fa,
non c'è nessuno che lo sa.
Si arrabbia ma non strilla,
sorseggia camomilla
e mezzo addormentato se ne va.
Guardo sui giornali,
sorseggia camomilla
e mezzo addormentato se ne va.
e mezzo addormentato se ne va

Not strictly Italian (Italian-American) but I have a few Louis Prima CDs. Big in the 50s and 60s on the club circuit. He did the voice of the "King of the Swingers" in the Jungle Book. Great for parties. Favourites: Buona Sera, Angelina.

Fantastic album!

Back in the early 80s, an Italian songstress called Alice had a fantastic record out - with amazing tracks called 'Per Elisa' and 'Una notte speciale' (amongst others). As the sleeve had both the Italian lyrics and the translations printed on it, it triggered my interest in Italian and soon after I started taking my first classes!! Should look if I can find it somewhere again... Great voice and wasn't she gorgeous?! hehe.... Is she still around??
Another Italian who was famous in Germany in the 80s was Adriano Celentano, not just through his comedy movies (dubbed), but also his songs. I noticed on the Italy Mag news a few weeks ago that he's got a telly show these days?
Oh - and there was Gianna Naninni! Another great voice (if a bit husky lol)....
Ahhh memories! ;)
Talking about music, according to u Italy lovers, what is the best Italian song, or at least the most famous one? :)

What about the 1958 Eurovision song contest winner - when all the eys of the world were watching Rossellini's Voyage to Italy and all the money men were marvelling at the Italian miracle?
Volare, oh oh, cantare, oh oh oh oh
Let's fly way up to the clouds, away from the maddening crowds
We can sing in the glow of a star that I know of
Where lovers enjoy peace of mind
Let us leave the confusion and all disillusion behind
Just like bird of a feather, a rainbow together we'll find
Volare, oh oh, e contare, oh oh oh oh
No wonder my happy heart sings
Your love has given me wings
Mentre il mondo pian piano spariva lontano laggiu
Una musica dolce suonava soltanto per me
Volare, oh oh, e cantare, oh oh oh oh
No wonder my happy heart sings, your love has given me wings
Sometimes the world is a valley of heartaches and tears,
And in the hustle and bustle, no sunshine appears,
But you and I have our love always there to remind us
There is a way we can leave all the shadows behind us.
Volare, oh, oh! Cantare, oh, oh, oh, oh!
Let's fly way up in the clouds, away from the maddening crowds
We can sing in the glow of a star that I know of
Where lovers enjoy peace of mind
Let us leave the confusion and all disillusion behind
Just like birds of a feather, a rainbow together we'll find
Volare, oh, oh! Cantare, oh, oh, oh, oh!
No wonder my happy heart sings, your love has given me wings
Your love has given me wings, your love has given me wings
