Well done Rick, me and my fiance are planning on buying in Sardinia in the next 2 years and would love to hear more. Whereabouts in the island did you go for? We would love to base ourselves in Alghero and eventually end up in Dorgali, hopefully once we have estblished ourselves and my other half has got his mountain leadership qualifications.
Any tips?

We have bought in Tresnuraghes, a small town near Bosa, about 20 miles south of Alghero, on the coast. Tis is a very pretty area, not too Touristy and still quite italian. If you would like more info about buying in the area I reccomend visiting Cometosardinia .co.uk where David or Gillian are most helpfull. Hope you enjoy your trips over, I think when you mention mountain leadership it sounds a bit energetic but interesting

Thanks for the website!
My father is Sardinian so I have spent a lot of time visiting the island and now I am nearing my thirties feel that it is the place I would like to end up. My fiance loves it too and we also plan to get married there.
Unfortunately he is travelling in South America at the moment but as soon as he is back we will be doing everything we can to buy a property and find some work. He loves the mountains hence the reason he wants to become a mountain leader, but we will do anything to start off with.
Wired eyes - Are you from Britain? How did you find finding work? Cagliari is a lovely city - I bet you spend a lot of time at Poetto beach!

Hi SG,
Yes I am British, from London. I guess I am lucky in that I already had my own business (Website Design / Development and IT consultancy) setup in the Uk before I came over here and so I just brought all my clients with me.
I lost 1 or 2 which made things harder but now we (my sardinian fiancé and I) have a fairly good stream of Italian work coming in so things look brighter especially with our first child on the way.
I've never had to look for work here so don't really know how hard it is, I think if you have good italian and english you can probably do well as there is a need for people with good english in the tourist industry but it may well be seasonal work.
However the unemployment rate is high i've been told.
Good luck anyway.

Yes, it's going to be hard but we really love it there so we will have to have a lot of determination. Thanks for your help and good luck with the baby!

Hi fellow English speaking person,
I live in Cagliari, been here for just over a year, where abouts are you buying, are you moving permanently or are you buying a holiday home?
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Aha I just noted from your other post that your buying in Villasimius so I would guess not moving permanently unless you like the quiet life during the winter. :)
Very nice place during the summer, great beeches, if you ever come down to Cagliari look me up.

We just got back last week. The town itself was still busy even though all the hotels are closed for the season.Upside we had the beach to ourselves!
well done for your new purchase in sardinia! how did you find the whole process? maybe you can give us some more feedback as most of us are still in the process of buying a house in italy and the whole thing seems so daunting!
