Hi all
I have just joined this forum because I have fallen in love, I have fallen in love with Italy.

I have been there twice, the first time I went to Naples with my partner (her family is from Naples) and loved it. But I wanted to be sure that it was the country and not just the romance of my girlfriend returning to her birth place. So last month we went to Rome for a long weekend and that visit confirmed that i had found the place where I want to live. I am now planning another trip to Rome in January and intend to spend the next few years traveling around looking for the place to settle. :)

Welcome to the forum. Consider coming to live in Northern Lazio, a beautiful and diverse region and close to Roma! If you want any more info in the future when you start looking seriously just PM us! We have lived her since Spring 2004 and love the region!

I will do, thanks. Lazio region i where I fancy but my partner would like to look further north so perhaps north Lazio would be good! :)

We made the same decision about 8 years ago.
Took the plunge with our first holiday home on Lake Como Menaggio 4 years ago fantastic.Got our second in Ostuni Puglia about 9 months ago also fantastic in a different way. Planning to retire there eventually and feel these are much better investments than a private pension and much more fun!!! Have travelled to many places in Italy and have enjoyed every place I have been to. I wish you well with your plans. Tricia

Hi Bear,
Welcome to the forum, you have come to the right place. We are moving to Puglia next week so we echo pizzicam's comments!

I third what pizzacam has said about Puglia, welcome to the forum and good luck which ever region you decide to settle in. :D

Hi Everybody!

I am very happy that I found this forum. I like Italy very-very much, and once I would like to live there. This year I was in Italy three times, I was in Torino, Firenze, Venezia, San Gimignano, Roma... and I enjoyed it. Everything started with an Italian project and with a business travel to Torino. Now I have some very-very good and kind Italian friends and I learn Italian for 9 months. I love it!

Ciao :)
Lilla

Ciao Lilla e benvenuta

You have been very fortunate to have visited Italy 3 times this year. Of the towns you mention the one that I have not visited is Torino. My wife and I especially liked San Gimignano - così tranquilla!!

Welcome to the forum Lilla. Probably the first Hungarian member, unless someone knows different?

Hi Bear
If you have fallen in love with the hustle and bustle of Rome, as we did 20 years ago, but enjoy views of the sea and/or the appenines and the experience of living in the countryside (we watch sheep grazing around a medieval castle each day on the opposite hill) We highly recommend the Colli Albani just to the South East of Rome - some parts are prohibitively expensive (Frascati, Castel Gandolfo..) but tucked away in unexpected hamlets there are still affordable places. Don't leave Rome without having a look at Velletri, Genzano, Albano, Arricia -we bought here 4 years ago and love it!Ciao Fiona B:D

I'm originally from the area around Gallipoli (Provincia di Lecce, Puglia)
but I've been living for several years in the USA for professional reasons,
so now I divide my time between Los Angeles and Puglia, where all my
family still lives.

I'm in the process of buying a large (about 220 m2) one-story house
dating from the turn of the century and plan to restore it over the next
couple of years. I'm acquiring this property at a bankruptcy auction
("aste giudiziarie").

I see lots of UK people have moved and are moving to the Ostuni/BR
area, what about Lecce and its towns, in particular the area around
Gallipoli, Nardo', Galatina ?

If we ever manage to get our UK house sale to exchange we are moving to just outside Lindinuso, about 15km east of Lecce.

Thanks for the info, I am back in Rome in January and if I get time I will try and take a trip out there. :D

Try to get 'Secret Places in Rome' its a fab guide book, Theres a lovely Chianti wine bar called 'Chianti', just nearby ther Trevi fountain, that can combine your favorite areas. I'm off to Firenze for a birthday in January for sales and culture, and steaks.

I guess I've been here in Italy the longest. So nice to know that others are still discovering the best life style. Welcome to all newcomers.

Now we know how long that is! Are you going to keep it a secret or go public on the forum? Your immense knowledge of living here has been a great help to us and others and is much appreciated.
